They do alot beter if its a back leg. Seen some without front leg and they didn't get around all that well. If a dog has drive it will likly still try but is going to be alot slower and will run out of gas faster.
While I was in colledge there was a group that used a nearby park I used to visit that all had dogs with missing limbs. Most of the dogs got around ok but it seemed like the ones with front legs missing had balance issues while moving slow and tired faster than the ones with back legs missing. But the ones with front legs missing seemed on average faster. Also there was one with only back legs, that little thing seemed happy and got around by hopping. Thier dogs were pets, not hunting dogs but some played fetch and frisbee catch ect.
