Does anyone hunt hogs with a mountain view cur?Or should I

Postby lifreediver » Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:33 pm

I like how strict the breeders are with the mvc.Seems like they would be good for hogs.I might be wrong but they seem to be a kemmer cur.Are they silent on hogs.Am I wasting time on them and should I get a black mouth cur?
What cur line would give me my best chance of getting a good closed mouth bay dog.
I want the best chance.I would have to send her south to guys with a bay pen and pay monthly for training so cost will and up.Dont want to start over to much.
Also how is the amazing treeing cur on hogs?
The guys I know are mostly running bear with walkers and one freind running bears with kemmers So no help from them.Aways wanted bear dogs the training season and hunting season dont work for me lose to much money taking off july august sept.
hogs year round helps alot Thanks guys

LI-If you want a pup/dog like you described get one from a hog hunter thats doing it day in day out. Not a coon hunter that has an extra pup or a bear hunter that has a extra mutt laying around. I went through alot or $$$ and miles to get the blood I have and it dont come easy for the good stuff especially when your trying to step into it for the first time.

I have never heard of a Mt view cur but for training

Email krystal at boarhounds@hotmail.com

She does hog dog training for reasonable pricing and I think she has a litter of her "Uglydogs" on the ground that will make rough hog dogs.

She is the one that started the Uglydog Cut collars\vests also.

Good Luck

i'd reccommend using a proven breed from a proven breeder. then after the dog has taught you to hog hunt start experimenting in the direction you want.
i personally would go w/ a blackmouth, catahoula, lacy, plott or mixed up linebred curdog from a breeder w/ an excellent rep.
if you go w/ a plott don't get bear dogs. a dog w/ hog catching grit would mean a lot of high dollar vet bills on bear and most bear hunters don't want them (although a lot pay lip service).
kemmers are supposed to be open (so by default mt views probably are too). amazing curs are also mostly open. i am sure if you shop around you could eventually find one that meets your wish list but you be happier faster by going w/ what already fills the bill.

Mr. Mason is retired and a full time hog dogger!!

He only breeds Catahoulas but he always has dogs for sale of ALL breeds. If you want to buy a dog call and tell him what you want and if he dont have it just wait and he will come up with it.

He is always honest to. If I buy dogs Mr Mason is the first person I call!

Go ahead & save yourself some money & buy a trained dog that already hunts in the manner u want. Silent gritty dog if that is what u want & see what is available. Whatever u do, hunt with that dog before any money changes hands. U will be way ahead of the game & u can start hunting hogs immediately. JMO

but he wants a silent dog, there are plenty of BMCs, & houlas just like your kemmers but naturally silent. it'd be easier getting one of those than to try to train a kemmer or any other good mt cur to be silent. now if he can find one already trained that naturally runs silent (although it's hard to believe if you read full cry, there are still folks breeding them silent), then it all comes down to what he likes.

You show me plenty of Blackmouths,Catahoulas that can trail with a Striker bred Kemmer,I will eat my hat.I live in Blackmouth and Catahoula country and seen loads of both breeds.Never seen one that could come close to trailing with a Striker bred dog.

Bill, why do you cross plott, and hound in those cur dogs?To take some nose off the cur dog?Thats why I dont have Blackmouths or Catahoulas.Sure most dont say a word on a track, but its hard to find one that can smell a track.By the way,I aint a Kemmer guy amigo.Just a guy.A good dog is a good dog in my eyes. What suits me wont suit everyone.I dont own a pure Kemmer, but have seen a few I wish I owned. :D

the reason i like my kemmers is cause i can hunt her on bear and bobcats and she does great as well as a lock down tree dog, hunt her on pigs and she will stop them and is a tight bay dog. it's hard to find a good blackmouth or catahoula that can do it all from track to tree. good bay dogs though.
