Hey to everyone, I have a issue that I am trying to get a grip on but seem to be losing.lol I have never had any problem with wieght on my hounds in the three years I have been hunting with hounds but these last few months I have been battleing with wieght issues. I have been read posts on here about worming and I have went and got some Zimecterin Gold ( Ivermectin 1.55% / Praziquantel 7.75%) Paste and was wondering if somebody could give me some info on how to start a worming program. Do I just give this to the every month or do I have to dose them a few times back to back to start them out. I don't really see any sign of worms in there crap so I was just curious about how to start this worming program and see if it does any good in putting wieght back on them. I have recently changed there feed to Diamond Hi- Energy and uped there feeding, Tried to add white rice like I have read on here with no success.
Thanks,
Beardog

Re: I have a question...
I know nothing of the medicine or doses. But i have heard that using garlic works to get rid of worms, lots and lots of garlic. Whether that works or not i dont know. But i'd give it a try. Good luck

Ivermection is for heartworm you better test for it first or you will kill'em if they have it. it works good for heartworm but that is about it you steal have to use other wormers. Ivermec. will not fix your weight problem. have them tested! I used it for years for heartworm its good for that. Jeff

Jeff is right, you need to get them checked for heartworms before you give it to them. If they already have heartworms then the worms will die and clog a vein and/or artery in the dogs heart or brain and kill the dog quicker than sh!t. The test is about 45 dollars or if you don't live in an area that heartworm is prevalent than find a product that has only Ivermectin in it and it will take care of all of the intestinal parasites.
Sounds like your dogs need more fat in their diet. Give them each a couple of heaping teaspoons of bacon grease or mix olive oil in their food every day. Maybe your local butcher will give you some of their meat trimmings. Or better yet make em up some fatty ground beef and rice. That way they gat carbs, protein and fat. The extra fat should help them add a little weight by giving them something to burn for energy, then the extra carbs will be stored as fat and then your dogs will be fat and happy! Once they start to add some weight, then cut back on the extra fat. Got to think of it this way. Their bodies, either due to worms and/or lack of enough food, is burning more calories than it is consuming and they will not put on weight that way. They will actually start to break down muscle for energy. Good luck.

check out oldcountryvet.com and see what he has to say about heart worms and treating them. I don't where he got his facts or if there is anyway to prove him wrong or right.

Re: I have a question...
Thanks to everybody that replied, I have wormed them with the Zemectrin Gold yesterday.
I think i'll let them rest for a couple days with no roading or hunting till Friday evening, then I take them back up the hill for the weekend. As for the fat content I think there getting enough fat the food I feed has 20% fat. I don't really think they have any worms but I just want to make sure I cover all possible causes for there weight problem and their coats are all really shining and look good it is just the fact that a couple of them have their hip bones showing a little more than I like to see.
Tomorrow I am going to go to some meat markets and see if they might have any scraps to give to them and see if that will help.
Hey Jeff hows it going? You been doing any hunting or does business have you busythese days? Give me a call some time 209-513-4727. Josh
Thanks
