Are we ready for one yet? Is it time to circle the wagons and shoot it out?

Im fairly new to this but i can't think of a better way to fight for what we want. Power is in numbers is how I see it! Im in.
The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

And speaking of numbers, how many houndsmen of any and all kinds do you suppose there are in the U.S.?

There are more than you would imagine. I am sure there are a lot that are not on the net also. Would be quite difficult to get a total head count.

Re: National Houndsmen Association
A few years ago there was one.........at least was working as one and caliming to be one.
It was called National Hound Hunters Association. They had a message forum. One of those free kinds. Even had decals.
Once the question about how the membership money was used, what bills were being fought, a little history on previous bills fought, who were the board of directors, and etc...(you know the kinda answers you want to know to see if it's really legitimate) the group folded and shut down the site..............this being an organization that they said to be well established and alot of financial resources being put in and paid to fight and protect the rights of hound hunting to fight bills and to lobbyist working to fight these bills.
I happened to be the one that ruffed the President's feathers of this group by asking the above questions. Never heard of them before. Couldn't find any info on the web about them. None of the Kennel Clubs had heard of them. Before I became involved and sent in money, I wanted more info.
BOOM -- about overnighted they disbanded and shut down the forum after asking questions.
Presidents message about disbanding and shutting down was due to my asking questions -- funny thing, never did get any answers to those questions.
I am all for one.

Re: National Houndsmen Association
Not going to happen, going to be to much argument going on within to get anything done. All the houndsmen within one state cant even get along. I would hate to see a what national pissing match would look like. guess I can, go look at the threads on the UKC board about Budwieser sponsering a hunt, or someone asking about useing feeders, and those are civil.

Re: National Houndsmen Association
There's already a Organization that represents the Houndsman of the U.S. very well. It's the U.S. Sportsman Alliance. Last year they reorganized into one organization, but up till then they were divided into 4 different areas. One was Big Game Hunting and another was for dog ownership and breeding. If you go to their site, there is approximately 6 or 7 States under attack with "puppy mill" bills and such right now. They work very hard to keep everyone informed of whose being attacked and how we can win. This organization is a major Leader in fighting for our Heritage and has been around several years.

Re: National Houndsmen Association
I am very aware of the fine work being done by the U.S.S.A. However, I dont feel they have enough cash flow to shock and awe the situation that we are in. Also they are fighting multiple hunting battles, not just hound specific. Just the humane society alone has annual budget of 122 million. I was thinking more along the lines of spearheading a massive fund raising program and working with the U.S.S.A. and their excellent lawyers.
Someone has to give this specific issue their complete and undivided attention in order to accomplish the end goal a fast as possible. The longer this drags out the worse it will get.

Re: National Houndsmen Association
Liontracker, Your absolutely right about funding. I personally believe this a major issue with any of the three groups that fight for our hunting rights. You should also be commended for your desire to help in the battle to save our Hunting Traditions. But the USSA needs your help now fighting a battle in your own State of Colorado. If House Bill 1172 passes, your right to breed dogs and maybe even have a Kennel of dogs is in jeopardy. Your right about the USSA having a ton of battles going on right now. But so do the NRA and the Safari Club. The Safari Club is the major Organization fighting the wolves, but the NRA has joined in the fight. The resume of what battles the USSA has already won for us Houndsman is huge. From bear hunting with dogs in New Jersey to owning hunting dogs in California, all across this Great Country, the USSA has won far many more than they've lost. But all these Organizations could use our help. Fighting for our Heritage and right to hunt was once described to me this way. "If you aren't part of the solution, you could very well be part of the problem". So help the fight anyway you can and be part of the solution to stopping the anti's never ending attacks.

I would not only like to preserve our hunting traditions, but bankrupt the animal rights activists.
