length of heat??

Post by sheimer »

I have a bluetick female and she is just starting to show signs of heat(swelling, blood) and at what point will she stand for a male? How long will she be in? The main point is that there is a storm coming in on Tuesday night and I want to run her on Wed. I run with some male dogs and it hasn't snowed for 40 days and 40 nights. I don't want to miss the opportunity to getg her on some tracks, but I also don't want her bred yet. What do you think?

thanks,

scott

the old saying 7 coming in,7 in and 7 going out... but some females are different.. in the early 80's I had a female 3 days in that a young dog crawled the fence and bred.. and got a litter.
if she is spotting it would be best to put her up and not take any chances... the worst thing would to be to hunt her and mess up the males--- no attention / dog fights would be the results.

I agree don't hunt her in heat just starts fights and the male dogs are to worried about getting "some" instead of hunting.

Scott, you are asking for problems hunting her with other males. Take her out on your own or wait until she shows no signs. If she is still spotting blood it will be awhile probably at least ten days to be safe. Not every female is the same.
