We have a real problem with guides runing over hunters in Nevada. Me and my 15 year old daughter were runing a lion win a guid pulled up and dumped his hounds on top of are track. So I ran back on the atv to see what was going on.The guid said he needed a lion for his client. I said you didn't see are tracks in the snow or my truck sitting on the road? (Yes) . I dont no what happend but my daughter's pup was found dead the next day it was all chewed up. It took me 2 day's to fined all 4 of my dog's all ok. The guid used horses to line the track out they killed it 70 pound female. So I wint to fish & game to file a complaint. They were no help. IS THIS A PROBLEM EVERYWHERE?
Sounds like a problem you have to resolve yourself.Fish & game dont seem to want to help.If it was me this guy would get it good.He would think next time he tryed to do this.
''Life's tough, pilgrim, and it’s even tougher if you're stupid.''
This can be a problem anywhere, but it is unacceptable behavior. To knowingly dump your dogs on a track other person's dogs are running or to cut ahead and dump on it is not following the code. You may say what code? The code of ethical hunting behavior and also what has been known as the houndsmen's code for over 100 years. This in some places would call for a good ass whooping the first time, and then a little more drastic measures. These measures do not include anything happening to the other person's dogs. The dogs only do what their master allows. If it happens by accident go to the other hunters and explain and apologize and offer to help them. I have known people who have had their house and barns burned for this behavior which is a little over the top but then again it sent a message to the hill folk that this crap was not going to be tolerated.
Penny anty outfitters are all over and they are usually the type that can't hold a regular job so they hang around get a license under somebody and try to beat everybody else out of their pleasure sport.
Now I can get very hostile on this subect and I have addressed state and national organizations including the SCI and the Boone and Crockett Club about game that was taken under these pretenzes and verified should not be allowed for scoring. I have actually had agreement from these groups but they say the testimony would be subject to a person's word. Holy Cow! I though a person's word was suppose to count for somthing? Go figure?????
Anyway take this matter up with the Guides and Outfitter's Assn: of your state. Do not be afraid to name names becasue if you just say some guy they will just think you are a sore loser out there.
I remember Dale Lee talking about a fellow cutting ahead of them and going to their treed dogs and killing a big bear, and taking it out of the woods. Dale went to him and explained what he had done did not follow the code. The guy was a big fellow and threatened to fight Dale. Well that wasn't the right thing to do to Dale D Lee. He got the bear back but the hide was spoiled but I bet old Fatty was watching his backtrail from then on if he was hunting around the Lee boys.
Sounds like thier dogs killed that pup too? If it was killed by a dog or dogs I would atleast let the guide know... and let that client know too. Maybe he will realise his "trophy" is not as nice as it could have been had he hired a more honest guide. Word like that will get around eventualy and maybe he will stop finding clients...
I know a guy I use to hunt with that was down in San Juan running bears last spring. He'd borrowed a $4000 dog from a friend or relative and that dog and two others got stretched under the tree on that train wreck. If there is an answer I'm not sure what it is, but I try to hunt the unpopular places and stay away from people. I'm with Tom on that deal, I'd notify the hunter, the fish and game, and then tell the guice how much money he owed me for killing my pup. He is responsible, they are his property. If those dogs had chewed up a little kid his ass would be in jail..........
Man, I'm really sorry about that. that is a shitty deal..
You might want to check into Hunter Harrasment Laws? not sure if it would apply but you might get some traction that way, If he told you that he seen your tracks and intentionally dumped in behind you...?? I"m not sure if that would consitute Harrasment, Normally the wording says something simular to "prevention from legaly harvesting game" But I would study it up if you have that type of Law on the books and Ask F&G to enforce it. they normally won't enforce something like that on their own.
In my opinion...yes it is becoming a problem. We are starting to have the same problem with the bear guides here to the west of you (none of them live here they just come here to run their bloody prostitution ring then leave). I think there are more guides traveling around to kill and for some reason they now have a total lack of respect for the animals they hunt and the people who live (and hunt) in the areas they hunt. All I can say is its never the dogs fault and they should ALWAYS be left out of disagreements but if what happened to you happened to me I would be seeking my pound of flesh. People will keep acting like this until we make it clear that it will not be tolerated...very sorry to hear about it...this shit just make me so mad I can't even put it into words Also you need to look up the definition of 'take' in the NDOW regulations, if by turning out on a track you are considered to be 'taking' (in California the definition of take includes pursure, capture or attempt to capture) then possibly by turning out on purpose on the track of a lion you were already 'taking' they could be charged with theft of game. Make sense? Check it out and make the Warden go by the definition.
I haven't heard of it happening up around here, I think people have enough common sense and/ or are afraid of what the outcome would be if they dumped dogs on someones track, I think someone would get hurt if that happened around here...

Shawn that crap went on here as much as anywhere but the new tag system took most of it away. I have heard many stories about it happening here.
Buddy is right about hunter harassment, I think this would qualify.
You can turn the outfitter that this guy works for into the outfitter board and they will get points on there record. If they get a few complaints they will start taking notice of what there doing to other people or then there outfitter license will get pulled.
Dont be a fool cover your tool. When in doubt cover your spout.
The guide that did this was a master guide he will not return my calls. I went to fish and game about hunter harassment, they told me to just drop it. If anything would happen to the guide, I would be the first person that they would come to talk to. I called the guide association and they won't return my calls. Thanks for everyones comments.
of course he won't return your calls. the spinless f&g won't do any thing, Some old story with them bastards. if you really want to get this guy post his name and were he hunts. make so posts on other sites. no room for guides like that Dick!
Hey dryground, Sorry to hear about your ordeal with a BAD GUIDE. Not all guides in NV. are like that. It is illeagal for that guy to do what he did. If you have not had any luck with this let me know. I sent you a PM. raxntrax
