Moon

I know time of night, weather conditions, ground temp, time of year, can all change coons behavior. The last two nights I have been driving home late and it has been a big full moon. I have been kicking myself for not going out. Looking for opinion on how moon phases affect coon hunting?

my experience has been that I have not treed much game when it is a full moon out. But not to say I have not but treed more when not full ??? That could be a big debated question you asked though.

I know nothing about coon hunting except we don't put anything up when it is a full moon. Possible that in our thin coon I am just choosing the wrong place at the wrong time, but I sure as heck have never treed one when hunting during a full moon..

I have coon hunted many years. My experience is that I have treed some coon on full moon nights, BUT many more on dark nights.

same here iv got to the point that if its a full moon i really dont like going kinnda weird if u ask me lol

Got to thinking about amount of sunlight to daylight in a 24 hour period. I like to run lions in the morning after a moonlight night. I need to start hunting some more of the nights with less moon.

I have went every nite this week with a full moon and only put 2 up around here when theres a full moon its better to go around 4 to 6 am

so you are saying that hardley any coons are moving in full moon lioght ?? Only two treed in 7 nights out ??? :cry:

Around here if you went out that many times and only caught 2 you would need to find a new area or dog. :lol:

Im not sayin that they don't move just not as much as they do when its not a full moon

Thanks for the help. I thought that it would be the oppisote, full moon, more coons. I have always tried to hunt when the moon was fuller. Great website to learn from experience.

darker the better as far as i can tell.
If you have an area were you know they den up go there right before a storm and you should have a killer night!

this is my first year but ive been taking note on that kind of stuff.......we have killed them on full moon nights but not as many......and we tree just as much but there seems to be more den trees on those nights......my theory on it is that they dont travel as far from the den because they r more easily seen on full moon nights......not just by us but predators......i do like how much easier it is to see the coon in the tree tho......a lot of times its easier with the light off lookin for a blob lol

only been hunting since 1959... have noted many times that the Temp has more bearing on coon running than the moon..BUT the catch is there is a definate pattern to treeing many more times in den trees and holes in the ground when the moon is approaching full and just after...If you have a dog that can move a cold track.

There isn't much luck to be had on a night with a fuller moon. Or any bright nights for that matter. Not sure why, just doesn't usually work out good.
