Housing Hounds in a Kennel togetgher or on a chain alone?
We are new to this we are in the beginning stages actually we are undecided whether or not to put them in a 8x16 kennel together or on a chain with their own house any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would recommend housing them together in a large kennel. I am not opposed to having dogs on chains, I just think that they tend to get a little less bored when they can walk around and wrestle with the rest of the pack and goof off. Just my opinion though.

They will be happier and likly quieter if together. I also hope you plan to get them out everyday for a few hours if you are keeping them in such a small area or on a chain.

I've kept my dogs together now for ten years. Best thing I've ever done. I only run males and they are all happy and get along great. Never any sore feet because they are running around all day instead of cooped up in a kennel or on a chain. Never a single bark at my place and much easier to keep the area clean and also one heated water bucket instead of a half dozen.

my dogs are in the same kennel. i had them sleepin together in a big ol dog loo, now they are separate cause my pup was bein annoyin towards my female she got got sick of him and was kicking him out. they are still in the same kennel, just separate houses

I keep all mine together in a 60x120 kennel. Also I built an 8x8 dog house with a hall in the middle and six seperate compartments. Then I buried it in the ground 2 feet deep so the roof was at ground level. Just the heat from the ground helps keep them warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. I checked the temp last winter and it was 5 outside and 34 in the dog house. I figure if I'm going to run them together and be at a tree together they better be able to live together. The only thing I would do diffrent is maybe put two entrances on the dog house. My old female would get cranky somtimes and thought it was fun to stand at the door and not let the other dogs in.

Glad to see more guys are keeping thier dogs together. Mine are in a one acre or so run. All the problems I had years ago keeping them seperate in small runs disappeared; barking, sore feet, cleaning up every day, frozen water bowls, dogs walking around in their own crap all day. I hated it. We need to spread the word how much better for the dogs this is and also easier on the houndsman with a setup like this. The other thing I see is a lot of guys still feeding their dogs just plain dry food like Ol Roy. Horrible stuff! These dogs are meat eaters and athletes. They need much higher protein feed like meat. Try and you'll be surprised how much healthier and stronger your dogs are. Ground meat of any kind mixed with thier dry food every other day and just watch what happens in a month.
