Dry ground registered black and tan male
I am throwing this question out for you all to ponder and let me know. I have a friend who has a super registered black and tan female. She is already a Dual Grand Champ. But she is also proving to be one super fine bare ground lion dog. I mean in Arizona country she is making it happen, and in fact prefers lion over coon it seems.
The owner would like to breed her before she gets too old to a registered black dog that has proven himself on the dirt and as a producer. So I am asking if anybody knows a stud dog like that?
Not just a general plan like well Ken Duncan raises black and tans for big game so call him. I would like to know if sombody knows a particular dog that stand out and you feel confident is a true lion catcher on bare ground.
I raised black and tans for a lot of years as many know. And although I love the black dogs I saw a disturbing trend happening in them just as it has in most registered strains. You could put a shadow silloutte of them up alongside most of the other breeds and other than a bit longer ears they all got to looking alike, acting alike and instead of the old cold nosed country coon dogs from behind the bar you had a lot of smoke thru the woods bark once land on a tree and jam up competition dogs that really don't belong in a dry ground pack. Don't get me wrong I know that old black dog is still out there that can turn heads and make it happen , but I just personally anymore don't happen to know one.
So help us out please if you can.
Thanks

Re: Dry ground registered black and tan male
Cold nosed dry ground grade black and tans are easier to find in fact I have one of those but he wished to breed to a registered dog. The dog does not have to be a coon dog or a night champ or anything just a UKC PR dog that has the stuff.
Thanks

Mike if you cant find what your looking for maybe you should think about single registering your dog. Just another idea if nothing else works.dgarrett

No it's not for me and my high tan dog is 50% Jeff Allen old walker and 50% Stan Meacham black and tan bluetick bloodhound whatever. And whatever it works for me and he will root out a cold track and smoke a running one. He is beside himslef right now because I hooked on to the horse trailer a bit a go and he knows when I do that we are going hunting in the morning . He doesn't bark because he is a perfect gentelmen, but let me tell you when I open that gate he will hit the dog compartment of that trailer 9 Ohh!

Mike, Steve Gallentin has what you are looking for. He runs out of N. CA. on lions for Wildlife Services. The guys I'm heading down to see in AZ will have his number if you can't look him up. I ran with Steve 15-20 years ago and he's still running the same BT dogs. They were very good back then. We never saw snow in all the years I ran with him.

Dean,
I know Steve well he is a partner of mine in the Nance walker project. We talk about every day. Steve has excellent records on his black dogs but they are grade at this point and very heavy Nance Little Topper walker breeding. But I do agree not many better hounds hunters or fellows out there than Mr. Steve.
See you soon Dean,
Mike

Yea, I should have read your title!
Wow, small world. I meet Steve through Larry Wilburn. Larry is a legend out in CA when it comes to hounds. He taught me a lot back then. Thats' who I'm going to see down in AZ. Ask Steve if he remembers getting a ride out of a nasty steep canyon on the back of my bike one day when we were looking for one of his dogs! He still owes me!
