I have the same sled and have had the same problem. Rebuilt it once with a New jug/piston etc.($700) and it blew again. Now it is a parts sled. I think one of the jugs is still good. Plus I have other parts. Will consider selling whole sled if you are interested

I used to have a built 580 ZR, you can not bore them, as they have a chrome cylinder. They have to be re-sleeved if you can't clean them with a hone. Or buy a jug. They like to run rich, and running them lean, will burn them down quick. Your oil pump runs off crankcase vacume, so pulling on it will not get a result. The boys at the shop can check it for you, but a new diaphram for it is cheap. No matter what you do, make sure your jetting is correct, for altitude and temp. Running them around slow will make them hot also, they have very small heat exchangers compared to other sleds, even the newer Arctics. Hope that helps.

Oh, the reason it was built, I burnt it down once.

how cold was it out, and were you running gas station cheap oil? when oil is cheap and cold it dosen't flow well. don't start a sled and just hop on full trottle the oil is not flowing real well and motor leans alittle and can cause dammage.Example: take 2 cups of oil, one with "gas station oil" and one with even say half sythetic and put them into your freezer at home.... take them out in the morning and see why and which oil sucks. It just so happen my friends did the exact same thing and i towed it back and that was the end of the day. just a heads up, they make a 625cc kit for that sled. make it simple, just go gett it resleaved from a machine shop, new pistons/rod bearings an head gasket rings and be done and ride it for another 1276 miles and toss it. do a search on ebay or go to snowwest forums and find a jug ?

oh and yes you can bore that motor :? hence the 625 big bore kit.?......just a bigger sleeve, while your at it , port it,polish it up a little,do some head work, and take the 38mm carbs and have them bored out too, gut the airbox, premix the fuel, lexan hood, egts, put an aluminum bulk head, chromoly a-arms,light weight steering post, titanium jack and drive shaft, light weight brake rotor and hub, hyvo gears and chain, anti ratchetdrivers,ez ride rear suspension, boss seat, and a van amburg tunnel, then well i don't know... :beer

bluewalkerlionhound.

it was full synthetic PV oil. was not cold, probly about 30-35 degrees. that would be nice to do all them add ons, but im not dumpin 5 grand on a sled that i paid 800 bucks for. just lookin for the easiest/ cheapest (finding out that doesnt exist  ) way to get this thing runnin. if the jug cant be repaired, and i cant find a used jug, ill probably say piss on it for awhile, and just get a new sled this fall like id been plannin on for awhile. thanks for the reply
