My camp is in some real rough country, high mountains and deep canyons, when your looking for signal make sure your high and get an external antenna it helps a lot. Also make sure your collars are set to the 30 sec instead of 5 sec.. this last Saturday we got turned around and got bluffed up from the dogs. We had to go around.. the pack mule got separated from us and I had my external antenna on her in the pack.. :? .. anyway we got back to camp about 3 hours after dark and had to leave 2 dogs out .. and the mule. I finally located the mule and got out my external antenna and could get signal from one collar at about 3 miles, the other I had forgot to set at the 30 sec and it was dead.

I don't know any tricks yet except getting up on top, but when I do I haven't had any trouble yet.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Check out americas-pet-store.com/products/catid/303.html They have a link that deals with changing the frequency to improve range.

I have a fixed mount for my Wildlife tracking box for 216-217 freq. so you should be able to get a fixed mount for the Garmin.
It's Always Fun Looking Up!!!
