Does anyone no if there is really a trainning season in northern cal. I have heard that there is but the regs have me confused a little.
Thanks

California trainning season?
Re: California trainning season?
No training season on bear but you can exercise on coon, fox, and bobcat in open areas after the kill season is over. Thats the way I understand it. Maybe that will help you some.

Re: California trainning season?
This is what I have been told and from what I can find in the regs.
There is no training season for any game in Cal. You can only run your dogs on game when its open. That goes for fox and coon and bobcat. There is a few spots in Northern Cal that are out of the dog control zone that you can run your dogs after the kill season but dont get caught running game only roading the dogs. Hope this helps and if you find out any other info please share with us all would love to know.

Re: California trainning season?
Outside the dog control zones, which are listed on the F&G web site you can run after the kill seasons on cat, fox and coon as long as you don't have a gun in possession. In those same zones you can run coyotes and hogs and have a gun provided you have a hunting license and for hogs, a hog tag. No training season on bear, can only run them during bear season. If you pull up the regs. there is a map of the dog control zones. See below from the regs.
(2) Areas of the State Outside the Dog Control Zones. The use of dogs for the pursuit/take of mammals or for dog training in areas outside of the dog control zones is permitted year-round, except for closures and restrictions described in this Section 265 and section 364, and the provisions of sections 3960 and 4800 of the Fish and Game Code which prohibit allowing any dog to pursue any big game mammal during the closed season on such mammal or mountain lions, elk or any fully-protected, threatened or endangered mammal at any time.

Re: California trainning season?
this is what i found for bobcats
Bobcat. Dogs may be trained on bobcat from the day following the close of the bobcat seasons through the day preceding the opening of the general bobcat seasons, except for closures and restrictions described in subsections 265(a) and (b).
Then if I read this right everything from tulelake east is ok to run down south for a long ways.
Siskiyou County south and west of the following line; from the Oregon-California state line south on Interstate 5 to Highway 97 at the town of Weed; north on Highway 97 to the town of Macdoel; south from Macdoel on the Mt. Hebron Road to the Redrock Road; east on the Redrock Road to the Davis Road; north on David Road to the Gold Digger Pass Road; east on the Gold Digger Pass Road to the western boundary of the Lava Beds National Monument; north and east on said boundary to the Siskiyou-Modoc county line.
