I think that the box was just a little under 100 lbs and the seld was about 50lbs. That sled pulls so good that it is easier to pull then the old cargo sleds. And it rides really nice, very smooth. I think that it was 34x45 I can check I usually just put two dogs in it but I have had three and they still have room. It is pritty heavy as far as I can't just pick it up and put it in my truck. I usually use the snowmobile and pull it up on the trailer. That sled you have on your truck would pull it all day and not even know it was there. I use a 600 RMK I had some gear work and clutch work done and it pulls it great. Just not a real wide track like the utility sleds so you have to keep it going.

Sure like the top storage in the box and the shocks on that trailer H29!

Walt,
I hunt with a snowmobile a lot, and pull a trailer and dogs behind it a lot. I have to disagree with Mojo on building a sled. I think the tongue needs to be solid while being pulled (it can hinge for storage) and the skis need to articulate. I have pulled both kinds and the articulating skis are a much smoother ride for the dogs because the articulation of the skis absorbs a lot of the bumps. Also, box would not "endo" with this setup. I do agree about the hinge and swivel hitch system, that is a must IMO. Sooner or later you'll tip either the sled or the trailer over and if it doesn't swivel, something will break. I also think a trailer needs to be about 8" - 12" off the ground. Any less and your draggin in snow at times and any higher and it gets too top heavy. Plastic skis or ski skins on the trailer helps a lot too. The stance of the skis on your trailer should be about the same as the sled you are pulling it with. Keeps the trailer stable and easier to pull by running in the same ruts as your sled skis. All this is JMO of course. These setups are kinda heavy, mine is 70# for the box and 35# on the trailer. The utility sleds will pull these the best.

Catdogs
I read your post and I can see it all in my head. Dog sled tipped over, hitch broke off and stuck in two feet of snow been there and done that. That is why I got rid of my old cargo sled. With the hitch being hinged there is just to much movment and it makes for a hard ride for the dogs and they are so narrow it is hard to keep them upright. I really like your set-up and how it all fits on your flatbed. Lucky for me once it starts snowing we are on sleds for the rest of the year. But somtimes I wish I didn't have to pull that trailer around all the time. My set-up is heavy to move around and it dosn't come apart without unbolting it so it would be hard to load on a truck if I was by myself. I was going to build my own but I not a welder. Walt, if you can find an old Phazer that sombody is parting out the front suspention on thoughs have a solid bar that connects the front skis and shock system together and then you could build your trailer frame on top of that, that is what I was going to do. Ok my Son says it time to go hunting (last Day of season) later

Another good way to do it, is to mount an airline crate on the back of your tunnel. No trailer at all. if interested, pm Spanky on this, thats how he does it and it looks like it works good!

I've always wondered if it would work to mount somthing on your tunnel. How many dogs can you carry? My new Dragon has about 3' of tunnel behind the seat but it says 15 lbs max?

A guy I used to hunt with taught his hounds to ride on the seat of his Panther. He usually used 2 hounds but some times 3, and they rode in a pyramid formation. If the going got tough He would just tell them to hop off and run a ways and get back on after the trail got easier. To much work for me, I have never owned a hound that liked riding as much as his.

My female that died these year like to ride on the snowmobile more that in the trailer. I'm in the process of training my pup now and that is one of the things that I make them learn to ride and not freak out. It is superising how many times you use it if your dog will ride. Now my pup thinks she is pritty cool when she gets to ride.

I'd say no more than 2.

Here is what we use. its a little small but work great for what we do.
You can fit 2 dogs in it. We built it on the cargo box that came with the sled, it has the quick detach lever so its easy to remove.

that sled is a skidoo tundra (300 fan). It handles great even with 2 dogs in the box.

The box is 22 in long x 19 in wide x 28 in high. are dogs ain't real big, works pretty good for two dogs. They usually don't spend much time in their either. we usually go find tracks then come back and pick them up.

Here is what I have been using this winter, works great I used a dogbox sled in the past but it was so clumbsy to get around with in tight spots, I can get 3 good sized hounds inside it.
