South Texas hunt or was it in Mexico?

Postby longshot » Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:37 pm

Calvin, Dennis times 3, Chris, Roger and myself all met up near the border on a large ranch for a full day of hunting.

These hunts will really spoil you! We had a awesome lodge to stay in with GREAT food ready for us when they dogs were put away.

It took some getting used to the counry and learn the layout of the ranch. We did manage to scratch out 4 hogs for these guys. I think everyone had a great time!

Here was our huning rigs:

Whole new meaning to "riding shotgun":

The Top-drives give a whole meaning to "field dressing":

That is a fold out game hoist with a elec. wench

Here is Mark with our first pig of the day(this was his first stick):

WE should have had a nice boar also but I slipped into a bay that the dogs had run for almost 2miles; with no catchdogs to find a big boar poping his teeth in the "longgrass" He was less than 5yards from me and all I could see was his ears. It was getting dark so I tried for the head shot with my pistol and thought it was perfect but he didnt think so when he ran ANOTHER 1.5miles on the GPS before lossing the dogs in a tank. I guess he was TOO CLOSE for me to hit........LOL

Everyones dogs did really good. I was happy to see how we all worked together to put some good packs on the ground that really make good teams.

The Ranch is a private ranch that invited us out to do some hog removal. We brought the dogs and they had the transportation.

What kind of hunt are you looking for? Do you have dogs and want to bring them or do you want a guided hunt with dogs? I might be able to direct you in the right way.

The hunt was a lot of fun thanks guys!

12gauge,
Sorry I didnt get the question at first.

My pistol is a Ruger Blackhawk Bisley 7 1\2in barrel in 45LC. I shoot my reloads which is a Serra 300gr Jacketed Soft point.

The pistol is dead-nuts. I got no excuses other than I MISSED.
I was only about 4 yards and all I could see was his ears. Just didnt connect with somthing vital.

I used to carry a .40 also. But the Ruger beat it out for my hunting gun. I think the .40 is too light for big hogs but I used to carry a 9mm and have killed more hogs with that shooting FMJ's than any other caliber.

I shot some darn good boars with one shot kills but the SHOT PLACEMENT is key.

Somtimes I wish i was still carrying the 40 or 9mm of rattle snakes and stuff becuase with the catch dogs I very seldom need it for a hog anymore. The recoil on the 300 grainers can be punishing when you are not in a adreinline situation......LOL

Oh yea I chrono'd the 45LC with the 300's the other day and I am getting 1255fps!!!!
