RHODESIAN RIDGEBACKS

Post by sheimer »

Have and of you any experience or knowledge of this breed? My neighbor has a neutored male and he is quite the dog. He looks a lot like the curs, only larger than the ones I have been around. He has an intelligent look about him and spiked my curiosity about the breed. I'm just wondering if any of you have ever run them or been around them before. In an article that I read, they have the reputation for being able to bay up an African lion and come out alive. I'm not sure what and African lion is like compared to a Mountain lion as far as temperament, but considering their size, this may be quite a feat. Just wondering what you think.

my buddies grandfather use to hunt and breed those ridgebacks and he said they were silent on track(which he hated) but they were the most athletic dogs he ever seen... he also crossed them with walkers and got the same result
My thought is that if you are a serious bear hunter and had the room in the kennel for a couple of the grittiest dogs around it wouldnt be a bad idea. But i have too many as it is

heard a lot of hog doggers (aussie & american) say the ridge is the scar from where they took the heart out. however it's important to remember a dog thast is hog gritty will get killed fast on 300-350# lions. also almost ALL of them being bred in this country are bred for show or puppy milled & BYB for the pet industry, so you'll over pay for a dog that may never hunt or pay a more reasonable price for a POS riddled w/ health & mental problems.
after all that warning, talk to Matt Valdivia in MO. he's had more experience w/ hunting & working the ridgebacks than anyone in the USA. you can find him on ozziedoggers.
