What to expect with a running dog?

Post by jimmyd »

Hello, I have purchased my first dog with a 1/4 running blood in it. Was wondering what I can expect of this dog as compared to a straight hound? Have had Plotts and Blueticks in the past. Thanks for your time, Jimmyd

It depends i dont know what the other 3/4 of your dog is.The reason i put running dog in my dogs is the following .lots of drive - stamina when they smell a track they dont stand on there head . I like to say smell cat run .When the dogs make a loose i like a dog to range out making big circles.I live in big timber with lots of brush some of the harder tree dog breeds seem to false tree.NOT ALL. I dont like a mouthy dog . If the dog barks i want it to mean something . Just because a dog isnt barking dosnt mean he or she hasnt moved the track a couple hundred yards . When the dogs make a lose i like it to be quiet then when one picks it up they all fly to them. There is nothing i hate worse then a dog that wont shut up and get to the other dogs. Those are some of the reasons i put running dog in my pack.I guess the other reason would be when i go hunting with my buddys i like to see my dogs cross the rode 1st.
