New California Houndsmen group forming
Tired of clubs that take your dues and don't seem to get much done? Sick of petty club politics and power plays. Do you want to defend your hunting rights like the NRA protects our gun rights? Let's take the fight to the antis instead of defending the onslaught of their innaccurate, lying propaganda. I'm looking for pro-active, outspoken hunters willing to stand up for their sport no matter what. The CHC leadership is weak and divided. Another voice for our sport is needed for it to survive. A strong voice, strong enough to raise the funds and pay the politicians, strong enough to drown out those that oppose our freedom and way of life. If you want to help, want to tell me to shut the hell up, have a good idea or suggestion post it here or email me at
foxredlabmeyer@gmail.com. If hunting with hounds is outlawed, will you be an outlaw?

Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
Do we need yet another club in CA? Isn't that just further division?
If the purpose is going to be the same or very similar to CHC.....and if CHC leadership is weak and divided.....maybe it's time for new leadership to organize and take over??? Is CHC salvageable under completely new leadership, or is the general opinion that the name and reputation is too tarnished?
Is it possible to organize a state club as something like a branch of a much larger national club? Maybe more would get done and we'd be more formidable if we had the backing of a bigger, more experienced and successful organization.
(These are totally honest, face-value questions with no hidden agenda or malice behind them!!)

Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
Pete ~ I'd like for you or anyone else to tell me where CHC is divided. Or where is the leadership weak? CHC has more clout and respect in Sacramento than ever before. If you don't want to be a part of it, your loss, as well as your choice, but don't go running around putting down an organization that's been fighting non stop for YOUR and everyone else here in California's hunting rights since 1972!
I don't remember ever seeing you in Sacramento standing agaiinst a bad bill. Not once at all last year, were you there Pete, when I was down there along with the "Weak CHC Leadership" fighting AB1634, 7 times. Do you even know what AB1634 was Pete? That is without going back and looking it up somewhere.
When was the last time you were even at a CHC meeting Pete? Even before you went suspended for lack of paying your dues, you didn't even bother sending in your ballot to vote on the referendum issues or election of Board members.
It's easy to sit behind a computer and write crap, as we see people do all the time here in various posts isn't it?
Have a good day!

Dear Irv,
Bill in question was either the mandatory spay and neuter bill or the bill restricting the tethering of dogs and I didn't have to look it up. Some people have questioned the articles and letters of mine that have been published nationally and locally, saying they are too outspoken, shed a bad light on hunters, etc. That's the great thing about opinions. Everybodys got one and the right to defend it. I have recieved more positive feedback from the non-hunting public than other hunters, including the president of CHC. I or someone else will be the new face of hound hunting in California. Count on it. I have recieved a slew of private messages in support of my idea. And trust me, the new public face of houndsmen in California won't be flying the battle flag of the South, who by the way lost the war just like the Nazis.
Cordially,
Pete Meyer

Pete in dispite what anyone says Ol Rebel Pride works harder than anyone that I know at leading the charge in the constant fight for whatever dog bills are going on! I'm intrested in seeing what the format for this new club is? I'm not picking a fight just curious to see what your ideas are? My name is Tiny Santana and President of Nor-Cal Treehound Association. Keep on keeping on Rebel Pride you are doing a great job!

Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
For the most part, Pete is right, don't get me wrong CHC has done a lot for us as houndsmen in Ca. but they can be doing more, like having a rep. at every Wild Life Commision meeting to insure that we are seen and heard. Like running the PVF fund raiser raffle every year, this year the Donaldson's stepped in and they more then doubled what was raised last year, on the other hand they are all over the attack on us from Sacramento, I do support the CHC I just know they should and could be doing more and if anybody has a bigger and better plan speek up.
Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
what ya said made alot of sense but i think another club will take hunters farther apart.
Why not fix what we have?in the last thirty years I watched more and more hunters get in the sport. With less and less ground to get access to hunt.untill the hunters get togather we are gona beat our selfs.another club won't help that.

Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
I agree, I don't think that it's the people running CHC but the lack of people participating in CHC. I know that in my area alone there are only two of us active in the local club and and six that do almost nothing and a couple of them started our local club.
Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
Normally, it's easy to criticize something when you offer no detailed alternatives. In the case of your random rant, Pete, it has proven difficult for you to offer a legitimate critique. Since you can't offer any substantive insight in your own soapbox sessions, and you can't respond pointedly to Irv's questions, I will ask that you try to answer mine...
Who, name by name, is the CHC leadership that you speak of? How exactly is the CHC leadership weak? How exactly is the leadership divided? Do you even know specificly what the CHC leadership is doing on your behalf? When was the last time you offered to help? What great idea-barring your nonsensical and pointless suggestion to boycott Bear Hunting magazine-have you put forward to the CHC leadership? When was the last time you even bothered to show up to present your ideas? How much money have you donated to SPVF or during the various fundraisers? How often do you attend the banquets?
Who is the face of CHC that you find so deficient? Of the leadership, there is a law enforcement officer, two successful entrepreneurs, a retired electrical (optical) engineer, a manager in a software company...shall I go on? I am not sure what you have against college-educated, successful, law-abiding, family-oriented men and women, but I eagerly await your reasoning as to why you think you would be a more appropriate face of the hound hunting community in California. Do tell...
When pointing the finger at CHC, there are a lot of people who think "they" should be doing more. I want to know why so many houndsmen (some of you included) avoid saying, "we?" Last time I checked, CHC was not in the habit of turning down volunteers. CHC is made up entirely of volunteers. The money donated to CHC does not pay for anyone's livelihood, but defends and supports the sport that you all claim to love. The time that is spent volunteering is not compensated for and must be given when the CHC leadership and involved membership are not providing for their families. The CHC leadership and involved membership donate their time and their money because they realize the threats to hound hunting, know that something must be done, and PUT THEIR MONEY AND THEIR TIME WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS.
You clearly seem to have motivation and passion, Pete; that's good. I would suggest you channel it into something far more productive that the last two campaigns I have seen you rant about here on this forum.
Yes, everyone has a right to their opinion, regardless of how poorly they articulate or defend it...to say you have a right to your opinion is the most pathetic way of responding to someone's criticism of it, and I would hope you can do better than that.
I am not flying any flag that you don't like, Pete, so you will just have to answer my challenges and rebut my arguments rather than making personal attacks. You would lose that effort, I assure you.

Re: New California Houndsmen group forming
im in with what calblu says. Why not try and better what we already have? I think us houndsman in Ca. would much rather work together to better a club and fix it then to start a new club thats gonna have problems of its own, not trying to be negative about it but no club is perfect with how its run. let alone starting a new club....we can all sit behind our computers and talk about what needs to be done and what can be done etc, but talking on and on about it isn't going to get it done.
so lets stop talking about it, and get it done. i wouldnt mind helping out with trying to raise money.
