I have never hade this severe of a problem before, I have used muzzles, I bought a kennel silencer out of the nite lite magazine, I have used bark collors that do work as long as they are not taken off but after a couple of weeks they get bad sores on there necks, and I have used a horse crop on them, and last i have used my kids air soft gun and that just pisses them off worst and makes them bark worst.
I have raised my share of pups and the only difference in these pups than all the rest is that me and my family had to bottle feed these terds from day one, the mother had medical conditions. Does anyone have the solution to my problem? And no im not going to use lead

I have never tried a muzzle before, but I can tell you that a kennel silencer won't work with a kennel full of pups, in fact it will probably make the problem worse. If you have a kennel full of pups barking, then that silencer is probably going off constantly and the pups that aren't barking have no idea why it is making noises. However, I would be impressed if it actually functions at all because everything that Nite Lite sells anymore is foreign made junk. I would pick a time of day when you absolutely don't want them barking and put the bark collars on. If you aren't home during the day, then leave them off, but then put them on in the evenings when you come home, that way the prongs won't rubb then necks raw. I hope some of this helps you. Good luck.

Re: barking dogs !!!!!!!!!!
my problem as well. what i use in conjunction with the bark limiter collar is water.i use a pressure nozzle. dogs hate the blast of water.consistency is the key. you may have to get out of bed ten times in a single night. but if you are not committed don't even start. to me it is like the field training of a hound that just carries over to the disipline at home. i live close in to neighbors. to me it doesn't matter if i was isolated in the desert. i still would not allow a hound to bark in the kennels. this to me represents a dog that has not had adequate handling.with proper exercise, hunting, consistency you will see a change in behavior. by the way i don't use physical force of any kind on the dogs i hunt. good luck!

Re: barking dogs !!!!!!!!!!
Water is the ticket like Mike said..
I had a kennel full, 21 dogs that I inherited that had no kennel manners at all .. once they started they wouldn't stop.. I rigged up a sprinkler over the kennel and ran a hose over to the facet outside my bedroom window. When they would fire off I would yell at them to shut up and then turn the sprinkler on.... after 2 nights they would hardly ever make a peep anymore. Like mike said consistency those were long 2 nights but it was for the best in the long run..
After that even if someone drove up in the yard during the day or if I would let a couple out and they would start barking I would yell at them to shut up and they would run in there houses and put there head out and look up to see if the water was going to come down..lol..

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I am new to this sport and have a question too, will disciplining the dogs in the kennel for barking at stray animals that come around effect their bawling on a hunt?

Re: barking dogs !!!!!!!!!!
This has been talked about extensively here but to answer your question. Your dogs are barking because they are bored, no excercise and no stimulation. If they are still pups, they should be running around and playing all day long with their litter mates. This developes their social skills and 'pecking order'. Unfortunately we all can't get our dogs out everyday to hunt.
Kennels and chains are horrible for hounds. Hounds are athletes and need excercise and stimulation every day. More and more guys are finally finding out about all the advantages of running your dogs in a large enclosure. I've been keeping mine in a one acre run for 11 years now. Before that, I had kennels for 17 years. I'll never go back to kennels. Never any barking at all now. Never any more sore feet and much healthier dogs. I had a buy pull up yesterday and ask me where my hounds where. I pointed up the hill, they were all lined up at the fence watching us. He never knew they were there.

That water trick sounds pretty good, what I used was a half sheet of tin hung from the tree where my dogs are then I took a 2 foot lenth of 1 inch pipe hung that with the tin and attached some 90 lb fishing line to the bottom of the pipe , ran that to my bedroom window about 200 feet away, when they started barking I'd .jerk that line and it would pull away from the tin then slam back into it, three times in one night and a couple of tune ups is all it took.
