AZ houndsmen??

Hey all,
New to the site, been lurking about for a bit checking things out. My family got a new bluetick hound pup about a month ago. I have had mutts, dachsunds, and dalmations, but this is my first HOUND, "Minnie" (easy now, my little girl picked the name). The choice for a hound was pretty solid when I found a pile of big cat dung in our backyard, not house cat either. We live on the edge of town with desert out past the backyard and see wildlife on a regular basis. I knew my dachsunds would make some noise if something jumped the fence, but didn't want a cat carting of one of my children from the swing. I wanted something that was gonna make some noise and go after whatever came near the yard. I have been really impressed with wathcing Minnie out in the backyard with the kids. She keeps one eye on the kids and dachsunds, and one eye on the desert.

We do alot of wheelin, camping, and fishing. Just finishing up nursing school and ready to get out and hunt a little, too. ...And, even thinking more about hunting now that I own a hound. Really needing some help in starting my pup right. I have been working her hard out on a leash. I figure I want her to listen to me first. We usually get out and walk hard/jog 3-5 days a week depending on work and school load. She is learning to heel quick, and listens well. Well, when she wants, too. Also, trying really hard to teach her a patience at the dinner bowl and with her toys. She already sits, stays, shakes, and will play a little "hide and go seek" with the family. Although, the attention span is short - kinda like my kids. Try not to push to hard, yet.

Would really like to meet some people around here that own and run hounds. I tried contacting one of the local clubs. Initially, they got back to me, but when they figured out we were not in the big city, (I guess) I haven't heard from them since....? We have even been talking about breeding Minnie, since she is papered.

So far, we love her. Great dog! She has already cornered and killed her first 2 anima... well, bugs! Minnie 2, scorpions 0! Will try and post a pictures below. Will add a new one when I get a chance.
