Found the website while having a look around.
Interesting to hear how houndsmen n women are facing the same/similar problems around the world. It seems when the anti's(anyone opposed to hunting) start chipping away at our lifestyle, it is the houndsmen that are usually the first under attack. As I see by reading here, most houndsmen would rather be hunting than writing letters and attending rallies. Also most of them are both financially constrained and time poor. ( they spend most of their time hunting and breeding hounds).
It is not all doom and gloom. I have been hunting sambar(asiatic deer) in Australia with foxhounds and now beagles, 25-30 weekends a year for the last 15 years and would love for future generations to be able to participate in a fantastic way of life.
Enough about me for now. I have a bit of reading to do to catch up on what has been going on in the hunting scene on your website.
Good hunting and RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!!!!

Re: Hello from the land downunder
Thanks for the welcome Wyatte.
I have a bit of reading to do to catch up with all the goings on in America re HH(hound hunting). It seems as if it makes it difficult and confusing having so many states that allow HH but they all have different regs. In Aus there is only 1 state you can hunt deer in and it is hard enough trying to get all those blokes to agree on things. Must have something to do with the self reliant attitude we have.
Is there a national HH org that meets and discusses issues. Or some way of allowing all the HH from all the states to meet n greet and discuss issues? It seems as if the web is a good way to do things as the geographical locations of everyone doesnt really make it practical.
Will get back to you on the goings on from down under. Just a question. How do you back up your claims that this site is the best?? Who are the competitors and why is this the best. Interested to hear your reply.

Re: Hello from the land downunder
Hey Sambarhound
We don't have a national houndsmen club YET, there has been talk about one, and we need one.
As far as different regs for different states, it is tough, here in the West you can run bears in California, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and I believe New Mexico but can't in Oregon, Nevada or Washington. But for Lions in California they are under special protection Oregon and Washington has very limited hunting, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado New Mexico and Arizona have lion hunting all with a little different regs.
I'm not sure about all the regs. for the other states but some of the odd regs. for California are One dog per tag holder until the close of Deer season and that's not until the end of Oct. in some areas, the season runs till the end of Dec. unless the quota for the state is reached, we can go out of state to hunt lions, but if we take a lion we cannot bring it back into the California, there are dog closed zones for the state where we cannot have a dog that is not under our control running lose and that all depense on which Fish & Game officer writes you up, we can't use GPS systems for tracking the dogs or tracking collars with a treeing switchs, and these are only some of the regs. and restrictions we have on us and they are always changing and up to the interpatation of the Fish & game.
I may have gotten some of the Regs. for the other states incorrect so there maybe some corrections coming.
As far as this site, there are a few other sites around but none that I've seen that cover the houndsmen world as well as this site, it's overseen by a houndsmen from Washington state, and he's always looking at way to improve on what he's got going.

Re: Hello from the land downunder
The reason I was wondering if there was a national HH organisation was that it appears a hell of a job to be staying on top of all the regulatory changes and attacks on our ability to run our hounds. I know that there is a dedicated minority in Aus who donate so much of their time to try and keep on top of things but it is a never ending battle. The way I see it , there needs to be a full time paid staff to deal with the government and the antis and to communicate/ educate the members. But that costs money and trying to get money out of HH is like trying to get blood from a stone. Getting them to become politically educated and active is near impossible. But some good signs are being seen in Aus. Recently(last few years) there has been two deerhunting websites that have started up and the rank and file hunters who get on line to have a look at a few pics at least get a heads up if something bad is going down ie. antis trying to take some more away from us.
How many HH would there be nationally in the US? Ball park figures. Do you have to be registered with the government(have a special licence)? The future of hunting over hounds would be best served if there was liason internationally. I know the brits got f!@#ed over with there fox hunting. 300+ years of tradition out the window. But lets face it. Man has been hunting with his best friend since we came down from the trees and learned to walk upright. I would love to see the bond between man and his hunting dogs continue and prosper. Many of my fondest memories have been of hunts I have had over the hounds.
