Re: DC-30 Collar Range

Post by sheimer »

Buddy, very valid points that you make. The angle thing was not relayed to me by the radio guys in town except in reference to a specific type of antenna with a "ground plane". They spoke in reference to surface area of the antenna and comparitive lengeth to the frequency determining the effectiveness of the transmitter. That was a lot of really big words for me to grasp and I think I got it boiled down to the length meaning it needs tuned and the surface area meaning bigger is better. With all that said, a big antenna on my hound trying to get under a downfall tree is not a better thing. They were also very concerned about a gained antena being put on to the collar boosting the signal to 4 watts needing to be licensed. I am personally not overly concerned about that, but it's something to keep in mind.

Now that I look at my post and see what I wrote, the guys at the radio shop said exactly what you just said Buddy.

Well, I am going to have to retire from this post as it has exceeded my brain power.
Thanks guys and I'll check in to see if one of you figured out how to get a 15 mile range out of the Garmin.
