Just to clear somethings up...I'm not looking for someone to BRING a cage coon to my house. I live in town and my neighbors would freak.

I'm looking for someone...a club etc who already HAS or has access to said caged coon.

Carry on...

With all the bunnie huggers around these days, live coons can cause quite a stir for sure. I have been seeing a few post about using Stuffed toy animals with a good dose of scent applied as a substitute. I am sure the real thing is always best, but has anyone really tried stuffed animals? How did the dogs react at the tree? One can get a pick up load of old toys for a couple of bucks if they will work.

I've seen guys use a big stuffed bear at a field trial a few years ago,it worked ok.Now most of the field trials use a bear hide wrapped around a plastic barrel to give it some shape.

My female redbone needed to work on her treeing, so I used a stuffed Kiara doll from the Lion King movie. The stuffed lion was about 1.5 feet tall. It worked o.k., and she treed hard, but I don't think it works as well as a real critter.

The scent and stuff animal works good. The only difference is the live one moves in the tree before you get there.I put a line on mine so i can shake it a bit when i get to the tree.It also helps with them not sight hunting better. They smell the sweet spot on the tree and stay

Thanks for the advice.

I'm hoping to show the pup a live coon first. I've been out of "the game" for a lot of years so its like starting from scratch all over again. Casey has super high prey drive...if it moves she wants it.
