u.r.e. you are probably right. here is my stand. if this is the way the state wants it fine, turn the whole shitterie over to mother nature to manage.bears, cougar, wolves we have nothing period! we can only gain, we can't lose nothing on our end.then as soon as the feral hogs migrate north we can all celebrate in joy.some don't understand this.we can't screw anything up in salem. we have nothing to screw up. this is why they now are starting to fear us! just looked at the hsus link. hell they kick us to the curb again here is a good path to follow.kick there a@# to the curb every go# da%& last one of em'!

Please don't miss understand my point. I honestly believe if we execute a well thoughtout, well presented, well funded campaign that supports a scientific approach and creates emotional response we could turn this around.

This very well may be "ground zero" in this process.

Let's get organized........!

Save one for me.....

I think we should go back to OHA and show that the "cougar plan" is not working.

i contacted the oha at two different locations and have heard nothing.guy's let's have a meeting somewhere. let's talk about some strategic angles. what do you all say? let's set it up. i will drive wherever. i'm stepping out of the political arena for the rest of the evening, be back tomorrow to get your feed back. i have a far more important matter to attend than hunting. i'm heading out for a volleyball game and a night out with the family. adios!

Don,

I know that voters have shot this down twice. They have made it clear that hounds should not be used as a hunting tool, thus the illegality.

I just think one method to get the public to reconsider their decision is to display what is being used now to manage for the last 2 years has resulted in more cougars being killed then they ever realized.

The only effective way to have a healthy population of Cougars is to harvest mature toms with the use of hounds, we all know this and it is written in the Cougar Plan. That point has to be hammered down their throats. Without the use of hounds, younger animals will continue to be slaughtered by the state and every sports pac holder that sees one while hunting deer or elk. I do not believe that those facts have been presented very well to the public in the mass media arena.

I wish I had connections in the mass media market to show this well researched and documented fact. :(

Mike, I would happy to get together and talk about this with anyone. I know we have some great minds on this site and all over the state. It cannot hurt to try, or else we have no reason b***h and complain.....

Mark, perfect point to present to the public. It has data and can be presented in a way that it creates an emotional response.

Thanks Don,

I am still figuring out how to keep my dogs from getting fat because I cannot legally allow them to run in front of my rig on a public road for the next 3 months.

You guys bring up a great point about the bird nesting BS. That rule was intended to stop bird dog training for pointing on a nest.

If my dogs ever try and run a race on a turkey, quail, pheasant or grouse they would be not be getting fed anymore. That law is a complete joke and does nothing but keep ethical houndsman from keeping their dogs tuned and in shape on public ground.

Nobody ever says anything or gets a ticket when Buddy the lab is fetching a stick at the county park pond right on top of a mallard nest. I am quite sure if I called and reported this to OSP, I would be laughed at. But if I have a hound running down a road in 75 degree May heat, I would be sited for disturbing habitat. I think this could be worked over with a good attorney if anyone wanted to spend the money to fight the $200 ticket.

Sounds good Mike,
Don and I live about 30 minutes apart (Roseburg area), so it would be easy to hook up. I also want to make it to the next field trial to talk shop with you guys. Hopefully Don or Buddy will have that date posted up in the Oregon section.

It also worth noting that we survived 3 pages of this emotional topic and Buddy has not had a reason to send us to the CAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

something else to bring up to the public would be that when a guy or gal with a sportspac sees a lion or bear in the brush they dont know if that animal has cubs or kittens with them and just shoot them with hounds we can tell more so if they are females that have cubs or kittens there is a way i read one time to sex a lion cant remember how i will look it up i now alot of enviros say you cant sex a lion in a tree but there is.

also with the bird nesting thing heard a couple years ago gov, ted was walking on a hiking trail with his family with there family pet dog running all around during bird nesting season but of course he can get away with it.
if you look at places like idaho that has no bird nesting season and then look at the population of birds you will find they have a great population and running hounds or even training bird dogs has far less effect on nesting birds then say coons fox coyotes ect....

i also think that if this all goes to odfw we the sportsmen should have a slide show the enviros used that at one of the meeting i went to once and wished i had though of doing that as well, and if we can get on tv that would help us out alot show pictures and maybe try to get a statement of the little girl in corvallis who seen her house cat in the mouth of a lion as she tryed to get the lion to let go of it all that will touch the publics hearts and show them that houndsmen are not these bit killers who just go out and shoot everything we need to show them that we are in it for other reasons and that taking of game is second to taking pictures or what not, not sure how to word it but i'm sure someone on here can. these are just ideas figured anything would help.
cant never could

bluedogs, thanks for some useful tips. there is a wonderful cougar identification program with the colorado game dept. i think it is called the mtn lion identification and education program, on there they offer a 20 question exam that is required before hunting lion in colorado.the black spot under the tail is the mark of a male lion.yes you can identify a male from a female before the harvest if you want to.as for the nesting rule. if anyone ever gets a citation for this just check and see how many citations have been issued to non hound hunting hippies/ hikers. the governor. you will probably not find one single case in oregon other than a dog man.feel welcome to speak your mind. as well as shoot some pointer's out our way. can't hurt. take care. mike

we need to get other groups standing be hind us to.And they should are deer and elk population are going in the negative numbers instead of the posative number. This efects us all.I got off the phone with a guy, that went to a meeting last year to prepecent the hound man and the president of the OHA stood up and said we dont support the houndman in the woods. Thats fooliish look at the numbers sence we have been out of the woods. All group should support the greater good of the wildlife in this state . and stand and fight together when hunting rights are being taken away. This is way bigger than just us houndsman wanting to get back in the woods. this effects all sportman. And letting us back in the woods is a damb good start. look at the data before 1994 and after its black and white. All sportsmen and groups WIN
