what strain of plotts are u all running .how are the pocahontas dog ?????

I have never owned a poc. but I have hunted with a few bear hunters that have had them and the ones that i have seen i have been very impressed with. They where fast dogs that would bay hard in thick brush. I think the plott i have has a little in him, not sure of his complete breeding

My dogs are heavy shamrock bred.I've hunted with a few pocahantas dogs they're a good line,gritty ,tough hunting dogs,just like any plott.

bearhntwi how well do u like those shamrock plotts .icalled joe about a year ago for a pup .he said he likes to keep his pups close in case he needs to bred back to them .a couple of buddies of mine in mich have one and she is the real deal bear dog .still would like a full shamrock pup if u have a liter let me know

To answer your question of what dogs I have that have come from Gene Walker's Pocahontas dogs:
My kennel pretty much with a couple of exceptions, goes back directly to the home of the Pocahontas dogs, in Hillsboro, WV. Most of my dogs have come directly from Gene.

I had a good one that was killed by a Bear @ the age of 3 1/2 named Magnum.
This dog was Walker's Pocahontas Cody II X Mississippi Mud Dozer bred. His littermates that are alive, ARE GETTING IT DONE AS WELL!!

I have a Pocahontas X Crockett bred female (Walker'sPocahontas Cody II X Walker's Pocahontas Goldie) that is doing a great job as well.

I have another Pocahontas male (Walker's Pocahontas Cody II X Walker's Pocahontas Little Ann) which is becoming a good dog.

I have another Pocahontas bred young dog which I got from a friend of mine in NV that is all Pocahontas bred. At a young age, he's showing tons of potential. I know of two of this dogs' littermates that are and were doing a smash up job as well. I say were, because in one instance the dog unfortunately hung himself.

I have a little female which is Blackwater bred, she shows Pocahontas in her lineage on the Daddy's side. Her pups that she had in April 08, are doing a really good job I'm told.

As stated before, I don't believe you can go wrong with a Pocahontas bred dog! Nor do I think you'll go wrong if you contact Alan Smith and get you some Blackwater blood!

For me, these lines have all done an exceptional job! They've consistantly started at an early age (maybe not as early as some folks claim their pups do), but early enough for me. They have plenty of desire to catch game, plenty of grit and brain to go with it! They run a track as if they really want to catch it, and are good tree dogs.

This is not to say that this is the only line of good Plott dogs out there. As I would be a fool to do so, BUT THEY WORK FOR ME!

I like em alot.They're top stock as far as i'm concerned.Yea getting Joe to let go of anything can be a hassle I know.I'm planning a litter this year out of my top female.They're not gonna be full shamrock though,all my crosses go back to a line started by a buddy of mine over 20 years ago.The main blood of that line started with a weems bred plott and a vaughn/sebastian bred female bluetick.We've been crossing back to this blood as much as possible.

thanks for the info on both .keep me in mind if u have a liter .i know gene and have talked to him alot .i have a pup of his know cody2 and i dont rember whitch female .he starting a little slow but he has seen 3 bear in last 2 days i think he will be alright just a little more time. he did tree a coon the other night by him self thanks again keep in the woods spl

I run mostly Plotts. I do not have any Poc. breed dogs. I have 1 Swampland/Ursus female, 2 Weems 1 male and 1 female, 2 Bluff Creek/ Salmon River both males, and a Bluff Creek/Shamrock pup coming pretty soon. I just sold a Nabek male. I have had real good luck with my plotts. They are young but doing a good job.

All of my dogs except one go back to Bear Path Gunner there out of a line my buddy has been working at for a loooong time and its showing, i have a young pack but there all proving themselves in the woods, cant wait for season opener!

hey my opinion is his brother Curtis Walker has the best my 7 month plott all ready runnin there the best acting pups to. We started him on coons i he is doing good were going to start him on bear when he turns 1 year old we went and stayed at his house in hillsbouro WV. he hunts ever dog he has he has the best plott dogs and great man

I have a younger male plott that goes back to Curtis and Joe Walkers dogs. My buddy had a litter out of his dogs about 3 years ago and that when I got him. He started off doing good and has really stepped it up in the past few months. I am able to run him loose now and he strikes off the truck good. He is pretty quick and has the grit to pull the hair and keep going if he gets going. I have had him get several cuts but never give up. I hope to get another Plott soon problay a female but havent decided on which line I will go with. If I can find a Pocahontas or one from Joe or Curtis I will go with that one because I like what mine is doing now.
