rig cage

Post by robbyson99 »

was wondering if anyone out there still uses rig cages on the front of their trucks. and if so could i see some pics. i have a lifted chevy and think it would be better to rig from the front than the back of my truck. ive been told there dangerous but i believe if built right i wouldnt have any problems with dogs jumping out.

hmmm yes i didnt really think of that. my truck is pretty high with the lift i have in it so i dont really know what im going to do. weve got baits to run off of but id really like to spend some time rigging my bluetick and see what he can really do. i think he will make a great rig dog with the right set up.

when u rig your dog in back of truck-----is he reaching up or down---?

different dogs have different styles --- u might strike tracks crossing road better with the dog lower - especially dogs that are reaching down--- ive never used a front strike cage --so im just guessing , but
i think it could help a dog that is always trying to get his head as low as possible ,

on the tracks crossing the road---

im guessing u would strike older tracks crossing road but you would miss more that have been near the road but havent crossed

dogs that are all the time trying to reach higher seem to strike alot of tracks that didnt cross the road - most dogs ive had , the higher the better :D

oh ya-- ive known of 2 dogs that struck tracks from inside cab thru the fresh air vent--
:D :D

if you didnt want those dogs to srtrike you would have to have them on oxygen masks -- if theyre breathing ,,theyre rigging -- :)

ive seen dogs that would strike when sound asleep in dog box at highway speed-

might have to back up a mile to find that track :D

also had some that if i hit a bear with truck , they might strike it --

LOL PETE MY DOGS ARE USUALLY WINDING UP ALL THE TIME AND YOUR RIGHT MOST OF MY TRACKS NEVER CROSS THE ROAD BUCK THE OLD RED DOG IN THE PIC WILL STRIKE IN THE BOX GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR ANYWHERE I PUT HIM AND IS VERY ACCURATE AND DEPENDABLE . IF I TOLD YOU EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN THIS DOG DO FROM RIGGING MOST WOULD NOT BELIEVE ME UNLESS THEY SEE IT FOR THEMSELVES .THE RIG ON THE FRONT OF MY JEEP WE USED IS KINDA NEAT BECAUSE YOU CAN WATCH THE DOGS ACTIONS HE IS S NATURAL AT IT AND THE ONE LITTER THAT I HAD WITH HIM SEEM TO BE TO THE SAME LARRY

thank you guys for the help. i may attempt to put something in the back of my truck i guess. i have my box built now so its sitting ontop of the rack and the top is a bit higher than my cab so i dont know what ill do but im gonna work on it some how. i guess when your rigging you dont really have to have the dog so its smelling over the top of the cab right? ive only rigged for coons and thats how we had ours. the dogs heads were just above the cab and right directly behind the cab. i would think that if i hooked em behind my box they could smell off the sides of the truck just as well. thank you guys for the help and discussion. it helps alot. our training season here in maine starts the first of july now instead of august so im excited to get out there and try it for the first time.

well id say they know what there looking for haha. thank you for that. thats what im hoping my male will do. i havent had him out rigging yet because i gotta come up with something for him to rig on but i think im going to set something up in the back of the truck. hes got a good nose so i think itll be ok. i laid a drag for him the other day and walked him on the trail. bout the time he hit the trail he opened up and hauled ass to the tree and treed for awhile. had all i could do to pull him off the tree
Image

hopefully with the right set up he will strike from the truck like he does from the ground when he hits the scent
