Jim Walker in Oregon.
I heard an ad on the radio that now they are encouraging people to donate their land, and in return they get the promise that hunting will never be allowed on that land again. Wow. Now that's a bargain. I bet Jim Walker would like to donate his ranch.
At a humane society shelter in Wisconsin, a man found a nice young Wirehare that looked pure bred and he knew he could make a hunting dog out of it. He told the folks he would take the dog and they filled out all the paper work and he laid his money down. Then he happened to mention something about hunting, and they would not let the man take the dog BECAUSE HE WAS GOING TO USE IT FOR HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!
These people have lost it. They think that keeping a
high strung, high bred hunting dog forever restrained is HUMANE. They dont care about the dog. If they did they would encourage opportunities for the dog to do what he was born to do, and longs to do with every waking moment, and every dream as he sleeps. AAHHGGHhhh

David--year ago or so I posted a link regarding nazi Germany and animal rights--it was removed for aparently mentioning nazis on the internet is frowned upon. One of the first moves of the nazi goverment was to make vivisection illegal(animal testing) It is just like you say animals put before man and I dare suggest the "Global Climate Change" BS is more of the same pile.
Little old lady has this nice mini horse in her backyard--community voted for incorporation this summer---she was happy for that cause of so many dogs running loose they could do somthing about it now but.........ignorant women is going to loose her little horse cause she is on a lot not an acreage...she has no idea what she just voted for.
SPCA and animal welfare got horns and a tail.

You have to admit that there are some "houndsmen" that should not own a dog period.
They are the ones who give us 'houndsmen' a bad name, and their heads are so far up their asses, they don't know how to care for themselves, let alone a hound.

So Leta, who do you suggest gets to decide which houndsmen get to own a dog. You might want to be a little careful how you answer that one because the people you are sideing with here don't think you or any houndsman should be allowed to own a dog. Just because you are sideing with them now, don't expect them to side with you later when it is your rights that are being infringed upon.

Re: Jim Walker in Oregon.
what it boils down to, is abuse of power, you get some city slicker a tin star, that has six months school'in to be a animal control officer, they have a pleading heart about animals, anti hunting back ground look out,if you think your going to get a fair shake.beware the fact that johnee doesn't know anything about animal care other than what someone tells him, most abuse cases start, with someone doesn't like hunting, hunting dogs,a way of life for a lot folks,if they came from old school back ground,of ranching where you grew up doctoring your animals, they would know better, sixty miles to town, bad weather, wire cut horse, you doctor'em yourself, thats sounds like what got this going for mr walker, have'n to put a animal down,it happens in the ranch'in business, trouble with this world, anymore nobody wants to live on there own side the fence anymore, bet my two cents, some back stabber started this whole mess, for mr walker, beware of them nosey bastards they'll cause you a lot trouble.powder river let buck!

Re: Jim Walker in Oregon.
If you notice, the word houndsmen is in quotations. A true houndsman takes care of his dog (especially if hunting is his "his way of life"). The way we take care of our animals varies in each others eyes, BUT we all take care of our animals. And finding dead dogs and dead horses all over a persons property, is NOT taking care of / providing for animals in a reasonable manner. You can all bitch all you want but these animals need to be taken care of if we own them. I'm not saying run them to the vet when they get a scratch or boo boo, I am saying FEED them, provide them with adaquate shelter, thats not too much to ask.
It's not just hounds, it is family "housepets" and the person who "collects" every free animals they see, and then cant feed or take care of them.
If you own them take care of them.
I am out there fighting for our rights to own & hunt & breed our dogs, just as you are, I call & email the Senators. I just hope we can keep our dogs in the woods and any of the "sorethumbs" don't create a stumbling stone. Anything the friggin HSUS can dig up or find will be used to stereotype the houndsman. and Mr. Walkers case is a prime example.

Leta,
Where did you get the information that there are dead dogs and dead horses all over his property. You posted the question "werent there some dead dogs found on his property?", but it was never corroborated that I saw. If you have other information than what is on this thread, then it would be helpful if you stated and referenced it along with your condemnation. The same goes for your suggestion that he was not feeding his dogs properly. I know that they charged him with neglect, but I have seen people charged with neglect simply because their dogs were in hunting shape instead of being to fat to get up on to the couch without help. It has happened to me, fortunately the vet who examined the dogs agreed with me that the dogs were in good shape and were not malnourished, but if there had not been a vet here who was used to dogs in working condition instead of just the overfat yard/house pets that most vets see than it could have gotten ugly.
I do not know Mr. Walker personally, nor do I have any personal knowledge of what took place other than what I read on this thread. My point is that based on the information on this thread, I do not believe that there is evidence to condemn him. And if we turn on him and condemn him based on the information in this thread, then the HSUS no longer needs to dig anything up, because we have allowed them to use the stereotype just from an accusation, and when accusations are allowed to take the place of proofs, then we are all lost.
