Bracco Italiano Dogs

Post by Big Horn Posse »

I was looking at one day getting a new hunting dog. Since Scarlett's passing I will not be getting another big game hound. I was thinking more along the lines of a bird dog. Lot easier on the knees hunting phesants than lions. I had Springers growing up, but I cant resist the saggy face of a hound. I came across this breed and they look like a cross between a GSP and a bloodhound. I was curious if any of you guys have been around them or are familiar with the breed.

most continental pointers do double duty as scent "hounds" and always have. the spanish & portugese dogs are houndy looking also. but that's about all i know on the subject.

Try going to the NAVHDA website. they will be able to direct you. I just judge a NAVHDA test where one was entered. Not the most intense pointer I've ever seen but liked the water.

They are definitely interesting dogs. I would prefer a breed that likes water. Lots of wetland areas around not just the uplands. Labs are very popular, but they are a dime a dozen just as the GSP and the rough coated version of the GSP, forgot the actual name of those.  I think these would serve my purpose of a weekend pleasure hunter and an overall companion. It will be awhile before I get another dog, but it is nice to know what you want to get when the time comes........... I really miss my dogs. :( :(

I can see how this is going to play out they will get all this bird training then one day they will start trailin some poor bobcat or coon . then that night the i wonders will start . and two weeks later the snow will fall and we will be hearing the progress of the bracco's lion trailing exploits  so i say go for it ! just tell us how it goes and think about those pups. i bet you couldn't see the dog for the wrinkles n ears
