I live in Idaho near Boise, and I'm willing to travel short distances to make this work. Even if I get some basic "where to start" tips that would be GREATLY appreciated.

Living in Idaho and new to this hound thing!
My name is Ryan. I have a redbone/plott mix that comes from a long line of bear hunting dogs. I have never hunted with him, but I really wanna give it a shot. I have been unsuccessful so far in finding anyone willing to show me the ropes and help me get him trained as well as possible going along for the hunt without my dog and seeing how it works. This dog has a lot of good instinct. It runs around sniffing out cats and baying at them in trees and on fences and I want to see his instincts put to better use than chasing house cats

Hey Ryan, welcome to the site there alot of good stuff on here, where are you from "near" boise? I was raised over by Homedale, and went to vallivue high school back in the day. I know it's hard to start being the new guy with a young dog, I was in that spot for 18 months, but now a few good guys are strating to let me in and let my dogs pack in with theres. If your looking for coon ground my dads place has some on it and I might be able to introduce you to someone through an old friend. Or if I get over that way soon you can throw in with my trash running knot heads
.How old is your pup and stuff. Let me know and we will see what we can work out. Theres alot of reall good dog men on here that will help out. Lance Bell

I live in Nampa currently. I have family in Homedale and Greenleaf so I'm pretty familiar with all of that area. I was raised in Boise though.
My dog is just over a year old. Even if you can only introduce me to someone so I can get started that would be great! I'm not sure exactly what I will enjoy hunting with him the best so anything is a start!
I'm excited to get to know some people and get this thing started on something practical other than terrorizing the neighborhood.
My number is 208-861-0803 if you wanna call or have anyone call me.
Thanks for the help!

I will make some calls and see who I can geat ahold of and if I can get something set up for ya, coon is about what you got for now until fall bear opens up. I have a family reunion this week so it may take some time but I will do what I can. For now try anywhere along th Snake where there some public land for coons same with the Boise river also the cannals around Lake Lowell just talk the the farmers with corn near them and they should let you on there place pretty easy, if your wanting to give it a go on your own. Do you have a shocker set up or a tracking collar? I live in Pocatello right now but I will keep in touch. Lance

Welcome to the site. Too bad you don't live in Northern Idaho I would give you a hand. If you ever get up this way, don't be afraid to get a hold of me.
Re: Living in Idaho and new to this hound thing!
Thanks Lance. I do not have a tracking system or any of the gear. I really wanna go on a couple hunts and figure out if I wanna spend a lot of money and get my dog into it. So if you know anyone that would be willing to let me tag along that'd be great. Also I'm planning on getting him started at least on raccoons so that he has a clue if I wanna do something else and because I only have one dog for now.
Thanks to Tyler's dad too. Where north are you located? Do you have any other better way of getting a hold of you like a personal e-mail?
