AZGFD collared a bunch of lions all around Arizona in and near cities to study how they interact with humans. Most all the lions have been shot. Game and Fish asked that hunters wouldn't shoot the lions so that they could better understand them but some hunters just couldn't handle that so unfortunately 90% of the collared ones have been shot. The map they included in the article showed some of the lions that were collared. Two of my buddies were recruited to help tree the lions for collaring. It was a good project just short lived due to the death of the lions.

Well I would say they got thier answer... maybe not the one they wanted If lions live close to or in town most are gona get shot sooner rather than later...

Pretty intersting stuff they learned with those GPS collared lions. They had a tom that was using 4 mountain ranges as his home. Blows the theory they will be back though in two weeks! They collored a Tom in southern NM and it would take him the better part of a year to complete his circle. Some of the urban females wouldnt hardly move 10kms.

South Dakota had an adult female lion collored that just went on walk about and went about 400 miles into wyoming and set up home range there. They also had 2 females that denned and had and raised kittens with 1/4 mile of each other. Related maybe!

Learning some neat stuff with these new collors and they are finding out that some of the assumed theories on lions are not true.

Good thing about them urban cats as they will always kill something (dogs, people ect) and that will help keep our lion seasons!

They were collaring lions right in the most hunted areas of the state. What did they expect. They should have collared more lions in areas that werent hunted as hard and some of them would still be around.

Yup, that's what I've said all along and that is Ive caught lots of toms that I never saw again, toms that were not checked in by other hunters either. So much for the saving a tom for a client huh? I guess a guy should pop those big super toms everytime he slams them or at least walk away knowing that he'll most likely never see that lio again............

I had another hunter show me a where a tom lion had scratched years ago and say he'd be back through in a week or two, so I watched that tree on and off for years before I found a fresh tom scratch under it........

The caption for the picture of the lion in the tree said she was treed by 3 coyotes, has anyone ever heard of anything like that?

two years earlier a lion was treed in the same area by a pack of Javalina after it had snatched up one of their young.
