any houndsman near Vancouver Wa. ?

Postby The Vise » Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:13 pm

I live in Utah now but grew up in Tigard Or. I am going back home for the first week of August and would like to try and hunt the area. My dogs are pretty novice but we just caught our first coon by ourselves this week and I am so excited I dont think I can go all week without trying for another! My mom lives in Brush Prairie, Wa right near Vancouver so i will be in that area a lot as well as the Oregon Coast near Pacific City. Mom has some forest area and a creek on her property that i am going to try out but I was hoping to find someone who doesnt mind taking a rookie out and helpin him a bit. Everything I have learned so far I have to give thanks for to different guys being kind enough to letting me follow along a time or two. Hoping to learn more from someone else and above all get these dogs on some more game! If anyone out there is willing to help out or even if you dont know much yourself but wanna run with me PM or call or text.....801 362 5107 (Hank)

Axl got a pretty late start and still hasnt seen a ton of game but he is figuring out a little more everytime. He is not as interested in coons as Rose my red dog but he is blood thirsty on cats! He never misses the tree on a bobcat scent trail and those ferrel cats better stay clear :-) He has never been on a lion track but i cant wait to see it. I'll have him on a bunch this winter now that I know I can find them myself in the snow. Rose struck and treed that coon but Ax did pull it out of the tree cuz it was a short one. He also went swimming for one the next day and until then he has hated the water. He just about swallowed that coons head too. He is just starting to understand that when we are hunting he can take off and not stay close to me which is all he has ever known. I had him under two bear trees this summer and he hammered pretty good too! I think he is a gunna be a better cat dog than anything though. I'm almost afraid to touch him when he has a cat bayed cuz he appears rabid!

He was bred for cats and his littermates are cat crazy too. He should be able to tree a lion alone with his breeding. Just hope he doesn't try to stretch it!
