i base the cold trailing ability on how bad a certain dog wants to show his owner the desired game. by that i mean being able to jump and catch or tree the animal if possible. you could have a cold nosed dog that will cold trail and open on a track that other dogs won't but for me that doesn't do any good if they can't show you the animal. if i am going to spend my time and money i want to see the animal and if my dogs can't do that on a consistant basis then i need to find some new ones.

Ol' Mike Leonard has that post talking about spending a week with some houndsmen a person admires which is an interesting topic for sure. But I'd like to see a dog that would take a track that my bunch wouldn't and then show me the meat. I've seen it the other way around (my dogs rigging, starting and finishing and the others not touch it) a number of times, so I know it's possible.........but that would be fun to see! And I'm talking about a lion or bear track in the dirt that a person can see and verify, not a dog that leaves chasing the wind.

I mean seriously, if my dogs won't open, go down and finish with that dog then I'd be looking for new seed! To me that would be more fun that hunting with the great lion hunters of our time.........

Geez Ike, your just basically proposing a "Pissing Contest" to all comers.......are you listening 'Dawg! :agmnt

Remember, if you think you got fast dogs, or the fastest even........then go hunt with someone who truly has fast dogs....
......if you think (you being "any person", not you specifically in any of these examples IKE) you got the "best" hardest treeing dogs....Oh really? then go find some boys that truly have that quality in their dogs.

Someone can most always outshine you; ask the bar bully who thinks he's THE TOUGHEST.......we all know how that one works out for him, eventually spittin' out some teeth and looking through black eyes!

Seen LOTs of dogs brought up from south of the border that get out of the truck dogbox at extreme cold temperatures(-30 to -42 *C) and just end up rolling on their backs screaming as the moisture on their feet gets "frosty", pretty comical for us frozen Canucks and our woolly northen raised mutts to see, owner dancing around his prised purple ribbon canine wonder as it screams squeals and snake slithers so its pads dont hit the frozen ground yelling "whats wrong with Ol' SureFire", all the while our ill bred potlickers are taking the track and moving it out to show us "the meat" as you call it.......

........am I proposing a Cold Temperature Hound Off Contest, hell no; just another example, cuz I was in the Arctic this last two years and those boys dogs slept in windblown snowbanks down to -65*C and ate a frozen fish every other day IKE while on the polar bear hunts and are still expected to bay that bad bugger up....and DO, even the Wolf Pack may not be up to that my friend?

Now I truly need a couple while I ponder this "contest" idea of yours :beer :beer

Earlier on another post I made a joke about a "Super Slam Lion Hunt" - one from every state where legal - shoot we could ad Canada, and at the end of it we would now who had the best hounds!

Ike, if you can make out here to New England, I think I know a couple dogs that would have you looking for new seed pretty quick. We can put some trail cameras out to get an idea how old the tracks are.Keep going back till these 2 dogs are the only ones that will take the track while the others are wondering what all the fuss is about. Not to make it a wasted trip, we will let you walk your dogs into the tree and see what these 2 REAL cold trailers were barking at.If your dogs act interested at the tree, we can let the bear out and let your dogs have a go at him.

Assume it will be a "poundage hunt" like the bobcat and bear hunts are......only seems fair!

Well borderpond, I'm most likely not going anywhere in search of this super cold-nosed hound that will trail out from under a good pack of hounds. My idea was if anybody thinks they have such a creature (and that includes any single hound in New England), then bring it here in my backyard, on the dirt, just me and them, their single great hound and three of four of my best, where we can see the track, and show me, cause I'd love to see it. And yes that is an open invitation...........

And remember, that dog has to open and move a track that mine won't, and then go catch it without my hounds all around it, meaning my best five, eight and ten years olds won't.......cause I'd love to see that just once in my life! And I'll shoot the video and post it on here if it does........with the wording: "this is a real, cold nosed hound unlike mine."

ike

Sorry but I have already set the rules.........

TNT:Alright then! To be even "more" fair, lets take Weight + length + B&C score = Total.
Take one from every state and province, add all the totals and highest wins!
Hunt as many states and provinces you can and stop where you want.
Start Jan. 1st - end Dec. 31. 1 full year.
$2,500 per person. No "teams" or scouts, just every man for himself.
1st place 50%
2nd place 30%
3rd place 20%

Now all we have to do is take a year off work!!!

IKE: apples to apples would actually be one hound against another. not a pack right? :joker

Well after a couple years of reading several thousand posts I've learned one thing on here; Anybody can be somebody if they talk like thats what they are.

So Ike I'd be willing to bet $2000 or the one hound you pick to run a track with my ol Harlo dog that,,, wait, oops I guess I cant call him old because he's just a mere 15 months old, but anywho, you pick one dog or more and if that dog, or dogs (if you pick more, they all become part of the bet) that gets to the tree after my Ol Harlo dog (that has a nose colder than a polar bears nose in a dead seals ass) goes home with me and I get to call my pack the wolfpack on BGH.
From rig to tree, if your dog rigs first he gets put down first and mine won't hit the ground til yours is lined out but if mine rigs first you can put yours down at the same time :beer
They find a track and it'll be an "away they went and that was that" except we post the details of the "and that was that." ;)

Liontracker; Ive had the last year off, I'll take one more

Now if you'll excuse me its 35 degress C here and I'm goin to the lake with Ol Harlo, did I mention that he can wakeboard and rig a 9lb rainbow trout 40' under doing 30 kmh ?
Always got my jiggin' rod ready when Ol Harlos on board!!

Sorry but it was my idea and I have already set the rules.............and the track that I'm talking about is a cold track that few if any dogs will rig. And I'm not talking about a hound out running mine down a hot piss or bear drag to a tree, but a cold track that mine won't move like was mentioned by Pete..........

Simply, my dogs won't fine or move the track and your single dog will go catch that track...........

Ike thanks for clearing that up. So you get your dogs out and if none of them can move it, then the challenger can put his dog out? So then to be fair to every dog, how do you make sure every dog has that track undisturbed by the other dogs?!!!

I will cast all four of my hounds down the track, and that person and myself will walk down that track and video. If my dogs will not find, open and move that track, then the other guy can throw his down and show me what a real cold nosed dog is, period!

IKE, I'm still sorta confused (from Canada, so go figure...) are you not just proposing someone drive behind you (out of hearing of your rig) and just see if their wonder dog can rig a track that your Wolf Pack drives over tight lipped (hence a "colder nosed" dog, compared to your then identified HOTTER nosed dogs)?? Then that dog that rigged that track that the Wolf Pack COULD"NT has to finish said track ALONE right????

That would then be the "test" right......... :agmnt

.......your version mentioned your dogs "all around" this new wonder dog?? How the hell would that show anything other than that yours are or ARE NOT PACK DOGS enuff to follow this new crowned cold nosed legend to the game he rigged!!

....back to the :beer :beer for me! :joker
