Acorns are gone???

So ive gone to all the places that we have done good earlier in the year where the acorns were and now that the acorns are gone, were having some trouble finding the bears. So what do they feed on next after the acorns have dropped??? Because the bears shouldnt be going into hybernation yet.

Beech is what keeps them up the latest around here.

Mike,

You prob already know but... bugs, bugs, and more bugs from my expierence... I start looking for overturned rocks on ridges and also around fresh wood cut areas.. As those wood haulers start tearing up and rattling trees those bugs start to come to the surface...for a nice easy meal, and a nice source of protein before winter..

yea we worked the rocky areas and the areas where we knew of aint piles but, then it went from that to acorns, but now i dont know where to look.

Nope, I meant Beech; As in the nut/burr bearing tree. IDK if you have it there. It ussually hangs later than anything else.

yea i have never heard of them, but i googled some pictures of the tree and i havnt seem anything like that anywhere around here before.

ya, being a native to the southwest the only beech nut you will find will be in the glove compartment of an old truck........copenhagen guy myself

I guess thats why a hillbilly shouldn't be telling guys in New Mexico where to find Bear :lol:

Pears...the prickly kind

Pinon...stays edible on the ground much longer than acorns
