Suggestions for a badly pulled pad

Hi Guys (and Gals),

I've got a 3 year old female walker that has a BADLY pulled/cut pad on one of her toes on the left rear paw. This thing will not heal. She is in a kennel on concrete and I thought maybe that was slowing the healing process???????

Any suggestions?

concrete is the worst thing you can do to a dogs feet and joints. put her up on some dirt the healing process will be alot quicker and use blue lotion spray. jmo later Andy

If you got a Tractor Supply around get you some Bag Balm it runs about $6.00 and works great. I just wound not run the dog till it heals up I know it will make the pad soft. http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs ... ue&cFlag=1

Get some Epson Salt put in quart jar with water. Dip the foot in it 3 or 4 times a day.

cover it with crazy glue, the slipped pad part anyway, it will wear off every couple of days, just make sure you don't glue any hair down or they will fuss with it. You can put "New Skin" (from the drug store) under the crazy glue if you want.

I had a English dog with the worst feet and I have tried everything above and nothing worked. Best thing I found was coppertox (spelling) and keeping him of the concrete helped alot too.

In my book Paco and Dan are right on. Coppertox is right hard to find but it works. Hind pads a bitch but they don't leave a lot of weight on them, usually them get hung up it's the front pads to worry about. Watch for bone infection, so don't forget some anti-biotocs treat them good and put them to work. I seldom have back pad problem unless the hook on somthing.That old bag balm sure will make them feel better. Other than crusted snow that I use to run on I don't have a lot of problems once I get them legged up with big horseback circles.

I sometimes think the feet of a dog are about as big a mystery as the nose on a dog. You can look at some and say why that dogs will never break down look at those perfect legs and feet. Next thing you know this sack of dog pebbles is four feet up in the air and whimpering. Next old slew foot rolls out there looking like Mother Goose and this tough hided, thick padded SOB will just wear you behind out. Don't ever let a bench show judge tell you what it takes to make a long winded , hard running big game dog. Be about like letting Obama tell you where to send your Mother for health care. Good Luck?

you might wana try and wrap it with some self adheisive bandage wrap to help keep the dirt out but depending on the dog it might not stay on for 5 minutes i had a dog cut there pad real deep once but lucky me she'd let the wrap on and it healed up real quick and nice good luck!!

I wish I could..

I am a yote hunter and I deal with slipped pads as much as anybody. A little 7% ever other day or three and run the dog. It'll work out just fine. That being said, some dogs got shit feet. I have a very good 9 year old Walker dog, I mean he is top notch now in almost every department or at least he was. I dont know how a running dog could have shit feet but trust me partner, this dog has the shittiest. Its really sad cause in his day, he caught more coyotes than 99% of the dogs in the nation but he aint never been bred to cause of them damn feet.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll start with the Coppertox and off of the concrete and go from there.

This dog has never had foot problems, she just jacked up this one pad somehow while she was running. She's only been run once in the last 2 months due to this pad and with deer seasons on now, looks like she'll get laid up for another 1-2 months so she can heal.

I'll keep checking this post for new suggestions...thanks again.
