J.M.O I would see if it will make a coon, cat or varmit dog if not I would get rid of it. I wouldn't run it with my bear dogs. If your caught in a dark alley which friend would you want covering your back the coward or the one willing to fight to the end with you
I think most of us agree our bear dogs deserve the same a friend standing beside them willing to put their life on the line for one another.

Re: WHAT TO DO WITH A BEAR WHIPPED DOG?
had this happen to me. a 4 year old dog that i was using for a lead dog whom id seen bay many bear pull hair pretty much do it all dog. We got on a nasty and i mean nasty she one nite who was just plain grumpy and he never made the tree. Caught him and my buddies dog off at a logging road about a 1/2 mile from the tree. My buddies redbone was bitten a couple places but my dog seemed fine. So the next couple trees he made but showed no interest in bear so here i stood scratching my head.
this dog had been on countless bear and here he stood acting like a cull. he also acted like he had no stamina. so i laid him up for a few weeks. and hes made every tree since then just like he snapped out of it. havent saw him on a bayed bear in person but we've had a couple walking bears and hes stuck like usual. hope your dog does the same best of luck adam
Tree IT!

did you ever try bringing the dog to the bear tree on a leash and let him watch the bear come down? when older dogs are present? i found that once the dog gets the adrenalin(dont think i spelled that right) rush back he will be ok

I had a bluetick that was about the same age that got bear whipped. She was starting tracks running in front, doing a good job and then one day a bear grabbed her by the face and after that she wanted no part of bears. I gave her to a coon hunter and she turned into the best coon dog he ever had, she just didn't like the bears anymore.

Thanks for all your input guys. I had pretty much tried everything and nothing worked. I walked him into trees (bears, lions, bobcats) he just didn't even show interest anymore. I did that for almost three months before I got rid of him, do you think I did it to soon.
