O.W. Hill without a doubt raised some of the finesr looking redbones ever. His Sierra Red Ace was a world champ on the bench. I owned Sierra Red Roho who was out of Ace and he also went on to compete for the World Title. I don't know if he ever made it. I sold him back to O.W. when he didn't suit me as a hunting dog. That has been 20 years ago but I beleive he did have some od Red Blakesly's breeding behind .

I have a hunting buddy thats got two of Tioga Valley Amos Red pups well not really pups any more but young dogs and he had Tioga Valley Amos Red. Amos Red passed about a year and a half ago. I have been looking for more info about this line and from what I have been able to find so far is it runs back to the Blakesly line? I have sent out email to many of the guys that have this line in there breeding hoping to find someone that's got it close still. I would really love to find someone out here on the west coast thats still got it.

Livetohunt,
My old line of Piute Mountain Redbone's were out of O.W. Hill's old stuff back in the 80's that went back to the Blakesly line. These were his bear dogs before he got into the show dogs. If you can find anyone that has dogs out of my line you will find exactly what you are looking for.

Livetohunt,
I do not know anyone in California that may have my dogs that I can remember, but there are a few guys around in UT, NV, ID, MT, WY, AZ, NM that have bought dogs over the years. I also have some in Canada and back east. Might give Brent Switzer a call (307) 655-2433 he is the one I got the line of dogs from and he can tell you the WHOLE history on these Piute Mtn dogs. He got them when he was out in California in the 80's and might be of some help to you. He also has a dog named "Sully" that I gave him a few years ago that is out of this line. Don't know if he will breed him or not.

I know there are guys on here that have my line of dogs too so they might be of some help to you also.

Good luck they are AWESOME dogs.

I don't know of anyone in CA who continued breeding OW's line. Might be a few dogs scattered here or there, but not concentrated in any one kennel.
When he became unable to care for his dogs anymore I think everything he had left went to Sampson Hill Kennel in Maine. Dave Doliber has them. Some of the offspring of those dogs are also now in IN with Joanne Marcoux or OH with Katina Childers. Gene Allhands in MO also has some of that blood. These are the descendants of his *show dogs* -- primarily Vindicator and Hondo.
If you're looking for Blakesley breeding, contact Dave Pelzer in MN. He knew the Blakesley brothers and has carried on with their line. He can put you in touch with breeders of that blood. He writes a redbone column in Coonhound Bloodlines. Don't know if it's in any of the other mags.
Looks like you've already got the info/sources you need to try and find this blood out West. Good luck!

Whichever Dave you contacted, tell him Chawn and Tiny say "hi". We've met both of them.
We got a pup from Dave Pelzer years ago (she's dead now), and we stopped by and had a good hunt with him several years ago.
It would be nice to see a redbone or two at our UKC events again.

I always post our upcoming events on this site under California (it's the clubs and organizations section or something like that). You can also see our upcoming events the month before in Coonhound Bloodlines or on the UKC website.
We would love to have you. I'm Chawn and you can ask for me at any event, though I'm usually really busy hiding somewhere doing paperwork. Better to ask for my husband Tiny and he'll try to answer any questions you may have and help you in any way he can. Our club (NCTA) tries to always help newcomers, so ask anything you want, anytime, and let us help you get started in the UKC events!!
Our events in 2010 will probably start in March.

I have a 5 year old male who's sire is Tioga Valley Amos Red, dam is Tioga Valley Autumn. He is absolutely a once in a lifetime dog, and we would love to have a pup from him however we cannot find anyone to breed to here on the east coast. I'm sure your buddy probably knew Amos' breeder Ralph. This gentleman knew A LOT about these dogs, but unfortunately passed away earlier this year. I would love to keep this line alive...One of the last 2 dogs that Ralph sold, he told us we should breed to. I know they went west, but I'm not sure where...kicking myself now for not purchasing them! I don't even know what their names were...

My buddy here in Cal had Tioga Valley Amos Red till his death, and still has Tioga Valley Autumn. We are in the same boat cant find a female to breed his male pups to. Ralph sold them to a guy that lived in central Cal and my buddy got them both from him.
