last night my 2 pups got 4 coon in one tree. once they struck it it was a pretty slow start. they moved it slow and slient for quite awhile. but gradualy increasing speed. Once they got it lined out they exploded and were gone. 150 or so yards later they were treed. from strike to tree was about 30-40 min. when i got their i saw four set of eyes scattered through out the tree. my male pup started climbing going after a little coon that was only about 10 feet up and the biggest coon at the top of the tree came down and got between the little one and the dog. they were about 2 feet apart when the dog tried to close the gap and fell.(he's alright, damn tree climber) these pups are doing awsome. tried for some pics but they were in some thick s#*t this is the best i got
Thats Kool!!! It would be nice to see some coon comp's held in ID, but with the hound handler permitt I doubt that would ever happen. Happy hunting to you.
i would like to see some comp hunts in idaho too. ive been lookin to do some short trips (utah, wyoming, n. cal maybe) to gets these pups into some comp. do u know of any.
I dont think there will be any UKC comp's here in UT untill Oct. I know we are trying to get some PKC hunts back here real soon. Check ukcdogs.com for more info.
You guys in ID need to put a couple of coon clubs together and work something out with the wildlife services to issue a special permitt for coon hunting sort of like CO. I know you guys have a grundle of coon up there. I would be at every event. LOL
what does CO do and were are their comp hunts. I lived the first 25 years of my life their. but didnt get a hound till i moved to idaho. i would definetly go back to that hunt. yes we do have a grundle (?) of coon and lots of public hunting grounds and a season that never closes.
Colorado has a few hunts a year and there in Brush. There is a hunt in WY next week but you have to be qualified already to hunt. See what you can do with other houndsmen in your area to set up some hunts. Ask the Wildlife services what it would take for out of state houndsmen to hunt coons for a few nites during comp? That where to start locally for you guys. I will keep you posted on hunts out west. Good talking to you and good luck.
thank u guys, i found some info on the oct. utah hunt . will look into Montana. as far as organizing a hunt in idaho i hunt alone, dont know to many people, a few big game guys and a few guys with dogs in kennels and never comp hunted before i wouldnt know where to start but possibility for the future. lookin forward to oct.
