Florida Cat Hunting Update
Hello Folks!
No I have not dropped dead........yet!
Dad has had me hunted down! We have been 19 out of 23 days here, the ones we missed were due to rain about a week ago!
Total to date is 26 races, 20 treed and 6 caught on the ground.
We had two of the best races ever Tue morning and this morning with just old Ruby and Queen and the six month old Pups. Caught both Cat one after a three hour Race, & this mornings Cat after an Hour Race.
Will have Stories and Pics up tomorrow..........I hope, I have been trying to sleep instead of writing stories!
Good Running to All!

Dan.
When u get retired u can hunt all night
& sleep all day.
Only thing with me it takes 2 days to recover from all night hunt.
I never get home from cat hunting till daylight any more.
But on the 3rd night I am ready again.
Kind of like chaseing girls when u were young.
Stay out all night , Then have to work all day.
About 4:00 in the after noon u say I won,t do that again, u are so tired.
But then after u get home & take a shower, u get the harmonds working & the way u go to the bars again.
Wished I were 20 again.

Mr. Dan,
For Dad it is pleasure........for me it is my Job! And what a job it is, last night we loaded and left @ 7PM for a short hunt.
Returned home and unloaded Hounds @ 9:35 AM this morning, no Nap during the night (well Dad slept about two hours between Races).
We Ran 5 different Cat: 1st 55min treed; 2nd 35 min treed; 3rd pop up hot maybe 5 min.; 4th trailed 30 min, ran 15 & treed; 5th this morning after daylight, trailed 1 hour over 2 miles, Ran 1 hour, saw it 6 times and put under a Log pile (not I did not crawl under to get him, though Dad and our little treedog bitch thought I should).
Stories and pics to come tomorrow, I pulled a Hipshooter and slept all day1

Hipshooter,
Harold is down here hunting @ his clubs, he struck 12 different Cat yesterday morning. But we have that EAST wind thing going and he only trailed @ a couple. He said he sure wished he had ole Andy, I wonder where he is?
This morning he struck several and caught one!
We hunted the two retired bitches and 3 of our four Pups yesterday, the other being snake bit. Treed a popup cat in the morning, caught a big Tom last night after an hour and 40 min. Not bad for two 8 year old bitches and 3, 6 month old pups!

Woo Wee! Struck 12 cats in one morning. That place must be a cat hunter's paradise.
Takes me a month to start that many.
How big do they grow 'em in Florida?

Where in Florida are you finding that many cats? I had no idea there was a place in FL where you could hit 12 tracks in one morning. I have been to FL on several occasions, usually business such as the SHOT SHOW. Moisture seemed not to be an issue in most of the country that I have seen. Is that the case where you are?
Adios,
Gary

Re: Florida Cat Hunting Update
Gary,
I sent you a PM!
We are off of the North Eastern Gulf Coast. Lots of Pine Plantations and Cypress Swamps!
The link that I posted to the Nebraska Bobcat study says that our Cat density is good, as I said earlier maybe even better as the rabbits are peaking!
If you have been to the Shot Show which I think is held in Orlando, you wer righ at some real good Cat country; unfortunately, just like lots of TX developers have bought up the big Ranches that Dad used to hunt and closed the Hunting.
The Ocala Nat. Forest has some Cat, but the best hunting is in the Big Clubs in Northern and Western FL.

Re: Florida Cat Hunting Update
i run em in the ocala forest. decent hunting. gotta have pretty good dogs to be consistent. few guys use running walkers. i have treed them with my bluetick and had actually stay treed, but the dog i have runs to catch and puts alot of pressure on them. best times is early morning, usually by the time they bay up or tree the sun is up and they dont shy from the light walking in there. get up with me on here would love to burn up some cats with ya. mark.Dads dogboy wrote:Gary,
