First of we don't gut them in the woods because we don't want Ravens Coyotes and other trash around our baits. I also don't like gutting with a flashlite and I have other hunters waiting to be picked up. We hang them like you see on a scale get there weight then dump there guts into a tote right there nice and easy (gravety) We used to never gut them Just skin them take the quarters and loyn. We lay them on a table to skin and with the guts still in they make a bloody mess. I have looked at the scale before and after a number of times and even the 300# bear's guts don't weigh over 25#

Like tobey said we got one a couple of years ago and it weight in around 240 lbs gutted it weight it again and it was around 217lbs. The bear we took the other day was 255 lbs live weight we gutted it and weight it again just to see, and it weight in at 220lbs. But this bear had a huge belly fully of corn also. We have done this numerous times just to see the difference and our average is around 35 lbs of guts.I think it sucks dragging a bear out with its belly wide open dragging in the dirt mud and sticks getting on the meat.
