Working with livestock owners in the central Sierra Nevada to prevent mountain lion depredation.
Sure would be nice if a houndman/woman or two were in one of these jobs. It might be an aggravating group to work with, but it would be for the larger good, and could be a great opportunity to improve lines of communication...

Josh all 3 are conservative groups. The Mountain lion foundation is major league anti-hunting group so I would keep your hound hunting under your cap

I am on a list for the Eastern Cougar Foundation, which isn't exactly pro-hunter, but not exactly anti-hunter either. This was forwarded to that list.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/easterncougar/messages
you would have to join the group to see the message, but I've reproduced everything that was on there
Perhaps I am being unrealistic thinking they need someone who knows how to keep the lions wild working for them. I know any hunter on this list understands things about lions that they don't. Not sure this wasn't an impulsive and slightly twisted idea, but I don't think it could hurt to apply. AmeriCorps is financed with taxpayer dollars. Here's some direct links where the internship is advertised:

Spanky's right
They are pushing to try and have non-lethal solutions liek building Cages for the livestock to save them rather than manage the cougar population.
Here is a qoute off there website..
If you going to do something Like this go ahead, they've asked me to join their group spouting that they aren't "opposed to hunitng" And Have "hunters that are members" I can tell you before they knew I was a Dog hunter, they were Clearly Opposed to Hound hunting..Clearly....
Emily, If it's ameri-corps..then yea I think it would be great.. I would guess that Mountain Lion foundation is probably trying to fill all of the spots with "their camp" and Build "government Experts" to use against us.

Mountain Lion Hunting
We oppose the sport hunting of mountain lions on the grounds that it is biologically and morally unjustified. Sport hunting is neither a legitimate wildlife management technique nor a morally justified recreational activity.

ya after I kinda looked at it alil, I got to thinkin and if I was in the same room with a bunch of younger people that were bagging hunting and what not, well lets just say my temper isn't as toned down as it should be and I just dont think I am interested in this anymore. Thanks for sharing this with us though, if I were better at playing well with other, I would probably jump right on this.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY...if I was still young enough to qualify (and of course not married and could move anywhere) I would apply for that job with the Mountain Lion Foundation. I would play their game and infiltrate their program...basically once you are signed up under the AmerCorps program you have to screw up on your college stuff to get booted out, they can't boot you just cause the MLF doesn't like you, basically they will have to suck it. Yes, I'd apply in a heartbeat..."Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer". (why the heck do you all think I work for the Feds. anyway!)
I second what Liz says.
I am "involved" with PETA and a couple of the other groups for just this very reason. My alter ego is a middle-aged woman who adores Ingrid like a long lost sister, and is rabidly fanatic about protecting animals from all of you vicious hunters.
If you speak their language and echo their
s, they open up in no time.
