Wall Tent~Hunt Camp Setups

I've been looking at a few new wall tents. I have been to Davis Tent factory in Denver (no, no relation to me) and they have some real nice tents. I posted a couple pics of what I'm using now. 12x14 wall tent with a Riley Stove. Check out www.davistent.com and if you're into wall tents, you'll be jonezing to buy!



I know the tent was sagging a bit....Needed to tighten the wall ropes.


Of course you gotta have a nice warm bedroll...Mine is a 7 1/2 foot zip closed canvas one. I stuff a sleeping bag in there, my clothes and any extra needed blankets. Slept in her at -25 and been toasty warm.


And of course, one of the best things about camp is having my sidekick and best bud with me...My 4 year old son.

I am kinda considering a larger tent for when we drive in and check out the stoves on davis tent's site...One called the peak, made by summit stoves. They look to be built a lot heavier duty then a Riley but the Riley's sure are nice when packing..super light weight........Let's see yalls pics and ideas..

Anyone using the internal frame pole systems on your wall tents? They sure look nice when the tent is set up...You can buy just the kit with the angles needed and then cut your own conduit from Davis Tent...Looks nice...Let's see wall tent camp pics. !!!

i have the int frame and love it, i will be setting up in mid sept, i will post some pics then, i just built a floor for it and can put it in as panels, works great, mine is 16x20, and i think im gonna build a door for it so i dont have to use the zipper

I completly gave up on the internal poles, went to the oldfashioned "standing dead" fir trees. I get alot of heavy snow in my country. Also saves on space packing in. The fir poles last quite a few years. I set three tents, one for sleeping, one for cooking and one for horse feed and their gear. With that setup we don't have to pull out until the snow gets about 2 1/2 to 3 feet deep. When everyone else has pulled off the mountain, the big bulls come through. This allows us to stay until the last dog's hung.

Old Liontracker is one of these Mountain Man types so you have to forgive him. Notice however I captialized this. For those that don't know this young sprout he creeps around up there in the high peaks and shoots goats and elk at and arm reach with his traditional sting bow. I mean he has taken some awesome trophys! He wants me to go hunting with him but I am use to my usual comfortable camp with plush beds in deluxe busses and my attendants offer turn down service with rare chocolates and hot tea.

But I have toyed with the idea of going up on the mountain with him just to see and hear those big dogs run. Oh well maybe he can tape it for me and I can enjoy it while I am taking a bit of rest and lemonaide after a rousing game of crochet at the club. Wink! LOL!

Snowhound, what did you use and how did you build a floot in it? I have thrown pallets in a tent before for a bit of a floor and it was ok...jimmy rigged

I do like using trees too when packing in liontracker. Bringing in a pole set would be nearly impossible. I have a couple spots however where we can drive to camp and then we hunt out of camp....that's where I'm thinking the internal pole set up would beat what I have...My current tent is a A frame type pole system with the wall poles. When I was in Davis Tents shop, seeing the internal frame tents made me jealous...tightly stretched tents that looked like they could handle a much bigger snow/wind load....Plus, with the internal frame you can hang things on the frame inside....Pretty cool.

Once again, lets see those pics guys! Mike Leonard, specialty chocolates and fine tea isn't always a bad thing!!!!

As for a floor, I us a product called scrim, Kind of an open weave, non-absorbent rubber/fiber mix.

Ya know Mike, I was thinking of leaving camp set this year for the opening of Lion season. The Florida Tom would be due for a visit about then. About the only thing missing would be a handle bar mustache, a guitar and that fine horse of yours...

I'll second the Davis tents, great tents.
They made one for me about 4 years ago and when I got it out on its first hunt, the windows were sewn in crooked and the sewing lines were also wonky.
I was pretty choked and figured I was s.o.l.

I called them and they told me to send it back on their tab and they made me a new one.
The shipping alone was $200 each way so thats pretty good customer service.

I went for the 14'x16' with 5 1/2 ' walls. the extra 6" high walls makes for a lot more useable space.
Front and back doors, with screens and storm flaps, full floor with zip out for the stove and pre fab'd angles for an internal conduit frame.











Theres a guy up here who builds wicked wood stoves, not the cheap tin kind. He only makes 17 a year and they require 15 hours to construct.

blacktailstalker....mighty nice looking setup you've got there...The guys at Davis seemes to be solid people so I'm not surprised they took such good care of you. I like the stove set up, looks like a quality stove..


Liontracker, where are you buying scrim...Never heard of it before but it sounds kind of cool.

I am thinking I will get a 16x20 with a built in awning out the front area of the tent...Lion hunting base camp material there.

I wish I ordered a built in awning, 10'.
I hate pissing around with a tarp and pole and it doesnt keep things like the stove, lantern and everything else a guy keeps in front of his tent dry.

brady, i used 2x4 frame and put advantech roof sheatheing on it each panel is 4x8 feet and put it all together and just put a few screws in the seems, works great for me but if you had to pack it in on horse it would be cumbersome for sure

No pics. yet, but I bought my first wall tent from Davis this summer. This week, the stove and angle kit will be delivered. I'll get some pics. up as soon as I get some.

I have a 12'x14 with an internal frame from Davis.. I just bought the kit and cut the conduit myself it was cheaper and was easy. Of course I only use the internal frame when I'm setting it up at my camp where we can get there in the trucks. When we pack in we just use logs. As for floors unless it is a wood platform I don't like them just a tarp under my cot is about all I need.

Here are some pics of our Elk camp this year. I took my mules and helped pack an outfitter friend of mine into the Pecos and these are the tents they had and how they set them up. They also had a Teepee that they used to store things like feed and stuff..

Here are a couple pictures of some of our setups. Notice the bear
damage in the tent on the left and the electric fence to try to
prevent a continuing problem, it worked but we also leave the door
open, in good weather, so the bears have an escape route. The
particular tent had holes in every panel.

The third picture is just a couple of hoodlims.
