Hey guys, how can we fight back with these stupid laws. Californie banned gps
tracking and tree switch. i guess treeswitch is understandable in the view of anti hunter, but gps should be allow. It is the best system to pinpoint where your dog is it. Have anyone ever fought with these law in ca?

DFg commision? I was thinking about goin there and talking about them allowing the use of knives as a legal method of take for hogs.
The gps is another usless law that dosent do anything but make life harder for everyone including the treed or bayed animal that has to wait for the hunter to figure out where his dogs are before he can either make the kill or gather his dogs and look for another. GPS will potentially shorten the time it takes for a hunter to find his dogs and quarry. Many houndsman are "tree and release" hunters so it benifits the treed animal more than the hunter in many ways. Less time stressing in the tree.
Ive been stuck on the legal use of knives for the take of hogs because its a safer method than a gun when using dogs on hogs for many reasons. Also when compared to an arrow whats the difference between a well placed broadhead and a knife? A precision placed knife is better than a medeocre shot because the knife will kill quicker almost all of the time. Blood loss is extremely quick followed by loss of conciousness and death. It may be the most gruesome and pollitically incorrect method but I truely believe its usually the most humane and safest method while using dogs.

CHC has been working with both the Department of Fish and Game and the Fish and Game Commission regarding the use of GPS with hounds since April. Stay tuned.

I recently saw a post from a deaf hound hunter. GPS is the only way he can hunt his hounds by himself. Think about it. How else could he find his dogs? This makes it an ADA issue. Can the CA DFG discriminate against disabled hunters this way? If they make an exception for deaf hunters only then that's requiring them to disclose medical information that could be a violation of HIPA. Anybody given this line of reasoning any thought?

I plan start pressing this issue at Fish and Game Commission meetings after the first of the year. California's prejudice against houndsmen has to stop. You might as well ban fish finders for fisherman. Good luck the rest of the season. -Pete

If you do push this can you bring up the fact that they are allowed for bird dogs but not for hounds. Why is this? We know its due to prejudice against houndsmen. But would like to know what they claim. Maybe you can show some numbers of the hounds that are lost in the woods and are never recovered that more then likely die due to the use of are old out dated RF training boxes. Or the fact that all of the GPS collars I have seen say that they use RF and GPS?
Maybe if it came down to it we could at least win the right to use the GPS for only recovering lost dogs. As in once the hunt is over and you are only trying to locate lost hounds you may use the GPS to walk in without a gun to recover you dog.
I have a hunting buddy that had a dog out just last week for 8 days he spent 7 of the 8 days 400 miles from his home looking every day for his lost hound. On the 8 day he found her in the same area he had been over 5 times. Only after fanning out with 4 others and walking right on top of her. She had a RF collar on and when he did get within 100 yards of her he got a beep, but it was bouncing and said she was on the other side of the canyon.
We have to win the right to use these here in California. Please let me know how I can help in this fight?
