I have a 12 week old walker female pup and she is obsessed with finding mushrooms. I take her for a walk and she will throw her nose up go 10 yards off the trail and start eating mushrooms. All different types etc. I am stopping her before she eats them cause I don't want her to die/get sick from some poisonous ones.
Anyway, has ANYONE ever heard of this before? Is this some vitamin deficiency? She is a bit on the skinny side, but I have wormed her etc. I feed her enough during the day, canned dog food, evaporated milk etc.
Just have never had anything like this before.

Re: Pup obsessed with Mushrooms
Man I would just trash break her on the cheap ones and teach her to find the expensive ones.. I bet you could get some good money for that type of Dog around here... Some of those mushrooms get a couple hundred bucks per pound.... I must have passed 15 mushroom pickers this weekend.
Sorry I don't have any real advise, never had that problem.

Right on there Buddy.
A local kid here just made $20,000 in 2 1/2 months picking mushrooms.
Imagine what he could have done with a trained Shroom Dog.

Don't you guys doubt that selling her for a truffle dog hasn't crossed my mind, haha!
I guess I'm more or less worried about her getting sick off these things, heard of a pup or two dying from eating the wrong mushroom. Guess I'm gonna try some negative conditioning, probably putting hot sauce on a mushroom or something.
Hopefully she will grow out of this but the vet wasn't so sure she will....
Of all my damn luck to get a mushroom dog......but on the bright side, if she shows the same passion for mushrooms on bears, bobcats and yotes, I'll have some fun with her

not to be on the negative side but once that dog fiinds the wrong mushroom its all over. Id be buying a case of mushrooms and force feed the dog one every day covered in tabasco sauce till it never wants to see another mushroom again.

There are many poisonous ones out there.....if eaten, come with dire consequences....
