Very cool! Hopefully here in about 4 years I'll get a crack at mine in G5.

Here's the one I got in G5 in 2007. It was taken with a Schaffer Silvertip Takedown recurve at 12 feet. It is the oldest Goat to ever come from that unit. It would have scored way up in the B&C book, but it took a death plunge and fell and rolled 1500 feet. That fall broke 3/4 of an inch off both horns. It took me 9 hours to belly crawl the last 600 yds. The sun was moving faster than me that day. It was a brutal backpack job. There have been some dandies taken in there in the last couple of years, since they raised the quota. You might have to do some looking to find a top notch Billy now. Good luck to ya...

The way the G5 herd is expanding I have some ideas on where to find the big boys. Most of my research is off of harvest data and talking to Dennis Howell. I haven't had a chance to go look yet but it appears promising. I just hope it doesn't turn into a death march because where I'm looking is a ways off the beaten path.

If the harvest data research you are refering to are the kill locations, then I wouldn't put much stock in that. The same info is available for Lion and how many guys do you know actually give up the exact kill locations of those super toms? Your stiffest competion in G5 for Goat is going to be John Gardner. He gets $4500.00 per hunt and thru his "network" he knows every respectable Billy that can be crawled to in there. If they can't be crawled to, then believe me, you will need a helicopter! I've only been hiking that country for 25 yrs, but I doubt that I have missed much of it.

Yeah, a couple of those places reported I still haven't found yet but it's a start. My idea may not work but you never know until you try. Looking at the horn measurements between the guided and non-guided, it is pretty clear John has some good sources.

In my opinion the 3 things that will give you the best advantage are:
1. The best pair of serious mountaineering boots you can buy
2. A good spotting scope
3. Time

Time is what I'm really hurting for right now. That is why I'm just building up points right now. That leaves me alot summers to go check it all out and see if my plan is gonna work or if I'm all wet. Keep us posted FullCry on how its going.

I'll add two more things to Liontrackers list. Google earth and flying the unit. Google earth has proven to be very helpful learning where access points are and how far away you really are from one point to the next. After one scouting trip a while back, I came back and pulled up that area and found a spot that few guys even know about let alone how to get to it. If you have access to an airplane, they are invaluable. You can find the larger billies in one day instead of looking for weeks on the ground.
