My races have been straight forward so far this year, strike, cold trail, jump and tree. I'm headin up to harass that ol' sow cat that out ran Bud and I a few weeks ago in the morning. Deer season is open here so I try to stay in the brush and re-plant units that are to dense for the deer hunters.

Well Bud there is stone broke (has a host of meanings), flat broke (you're a houndsmen so you get this one for sure). :D

URE you guys hunt during deer season? I won't even run my hounds in Oregon during archery season. How do you not get them killed. The things that have been said to me in N Oregon while I was hunting during archery spooked me enough for my dogs lives.

I hunt private land and heavily brush in areas during deer season. I have had nothing but good words with deer and elk hunter over the past couple years. They seem to have a new found support for houndsmen in our area.
I am careful not to push on anyone. If I see a rig going into an area I just turn around and go elsewhere. I worry about having a dog hit by a car more than anything. Also it helps if you have a trusted hunting partner that can stay ahead of the dogs in his truck.
I refuse to leave my dogs kenneled a day longer than I have to.
Once my dogs get in the brush I just stay with them. My new Garmin makes this easier than ever!

Having help would be nice, but I generally hunt by myself. And the Garmin is awsome. It would be nice to have an area that was private. It just seems in N Oregon there are so many deer and elk hunters. You will run into 15-30 rigs a day.
