Treed One, lost 2
Well we chased 2 today. First two were off strikes. First one they chased went up one drainage then over a saddle to the ridge to the left of where we started it. They were pretty damn close to this bear and we must of just missed seeing it and went too far. The bears we seem to chase always head towards the top of this giant ridge and up and over in to no mans land. Or in other words you have to drive around the entire mountain to get to the draw of where the dogs are. So the first one we caught all the dogs together on the road on top of the ridge after about a 3 or so mile chase, they are finally staying up with each other and workign more as a pack. Next one was another strike, they had it bayed up on the ground for a few minutes but we couldnt get in there in time, then it took the biggest drainage up to the top of the ridge again. We caught some of the dogs but 2 made it over the top so we had to drive all the way around. Got to the other side and we had all my dogs and one of my buddies. Saw a bear on the other side of the mountain, turned out it had a cub, chased it for about 3/4 mile and the cub treed. Momma stood her ground and one of my buddies younger dogs whos coming along nice, about 2 years old was baying up this bear because he got a head start on it, then one of my 7 month old pups came in and started baying pretty good. Then they saw us and got distracted, hahaha damn dogs, and the cub slipped out and we caught those 2 before the chase continued and that was pretty much it for the day. Good day with good friends though, so I had fun.

Call me crazy, but after 36 years of hound hunting I think its the one's that get away is what keeps me in the game. I know that sounds crazy but I really believe if I cought everthing I turned loose on at this stage in my life I would do a burn out and cash it in .

You have been doing it 35 years longer then I have, haha. Would love to hear some of your stories! Im sure you got them packed in that ol head of yours. As long as my mutts can catch some here and there for their first year then Im happy. Its more about being out in the woods with the dogs and with good friends is what I have found out.
