need pointers on how to find bear
Well I am pretty new to the hound game, this is my first season with hounds. I was wondering if anybody can give me any tips on what to look for? What is good bear country? I hunt an area that doesn't have many bears, not like I read on some of these posts. I have put up a few bears this year, but have been skunked a bunch too. What am I missing? I read about these guys that go out and have a race everytime. That's what I would like. I think my dogs are good, they are not super stars, but If I can get them close to a bear that bears in the tree. I feel like I dont know where to go to get them close. I go out and dont see a track or any sign of a bear. Where do bear like to hang out? Is their somthing I can do better, or is it just that I live in an area where the bears have 50 sq miles to themselves? Any help would be great thanks!!

find out from a regional biologist what the predominant natural food source is in your area.then concentrate your efforts there. Be prepared to put some mileage on your boots . Where do you live? and do not forget the water sources also.

The most important thing to do is to find the food they are eating. The next bear you harvest check its stomach to see what it has been eating. The main diet for a bear where i live is berries untill they dry up and acorns.

When I'm pre-season scouting I don't even look for tracks, I'm looking for feed, if ya find the feed the bear will be there. Mike
