This is a little story about cat hunting in muley deer country.
I have hunted in muley country, didn,t have much problem with the dogs.
I do know broke whitetail dogs will run muleys at times.
The dog trainers in the Mts say muleys scent is different that white tails.
We jumped a cat in a 300 acre uncut milo field, red hot track,
all short grass range land on all sides of this field. It was a big bottom that they farmed. We got on a big bluff close to the milo patch. Had a ring side seat, could see every where, I thought I was in cat hunters heaven, hot race & soft seat, ring side
Dogs were smokeing the cat, sounded like they were biteing at his tail every jump.
Then we started seeing deer every where, some were getting out of the milo, & some were staying in the patch not much afraid of the dogs, must of been 50 head or more of all muleys. I guess they were sleeping & eating there, no where else for them to get in the short grass pastures to hide.
Then we see 3 young hounds come out of the field on a deer.
We put the fire on them & they came right to the pickup.
We should of loaded them right then, but we didn,t & got them back in the race.
Still hot race.
then a little later they did the same thing & this time they pulled the old dogs off the cat & blowed up the race.
We had garmins on some of the dogs & the garmin operator (Me) didn,t know what he was doing & we had a heck of a time rounding up all the dogs.
But we went on and had another race later, the cat holed in a junk pile.
I wish I could till a story about catching a cat.

A man is not very smart that can,t find his wife 2 jobs.
And any wife should be able to support her man and a pack of hounds.

Re: Whitetails vs muleys
We have both deer here in Idaho, We don't have a problem with either one after we get'em broke, 90 % of the time we brake on mule deer because here in Idaho there dumb compared to whitetail, what will drive you nuts is when there in rutt , deer or elk in rutt will make you think old Blue has lost his mind, so we brake for 2 kind of Elk and 2 kind of Deer ,
