How long should I wait to hunt them?

Post by RandTMcKnight »

Our dogs found a porcupine and I was wondering how long should I wait until I hunt them again? I know there is lots of wisdom on here so I thought I would ask.

does she eat-- act normal-- does she limp ?

most the time, dogs that get a bad dose of quills can be hunted very soon -
quills in the feet and legs can lay them up=

quills can cause infection-they may not feel great for awile --didyou ever look in a porky den ?, they are not clean animals -
its rare but have heard of several dogs that died soon after quills pulled -i dont know if this is shock -- or blood poisoning or what - ?

- keep checking for quills --

even when vet pulls them , its normal for a few quills that may have been broken off to work their way out later -

the worse thing i worry about is any quills that got into vitals -- i lost a real nice young dog once-- one quill in his liver -- died at vets ,6 months after he was quilled -he was just a pup when quilled - there were a few quiils that were under the skin on his belly-- i tried but apparently didnt get them all -

like paco said --

ive hunted a lot of them as soon as i got done pulling quills --- thats the normal thing
when the tailgate drops

thanks for the info, she has one broke off between her toes and a couple broke off in her mouth so I think I'll wait a week and see if they start to work out enough to pull them.
