parvo

Post by r_cordell »

I just had a pup come down with parvo this morning and I took him to the vet, but I was wondering if anybody has any tricks to help them pull out of it. He's a four and a half month old walker and I gave him his shots, but the vaccine wasn't refrigerated for a couple days before I gave it, so anyway, he got it because of I was too lazy and cheap to buy new vaccine, but if anybody knows anything that works to get them over it let me know.

The only thing i have ever seen done is let the vets do their thing the dogs get very dehydrated and wont drink so they need a I.V. I had a litter get it and only 2 out of nine pups were saved and then sprayed clorox everywhere twice a week and two years later lost another litter to parvo it is expensive to treat payed 400$ a dog and is some very nasty shit.
if it aint plott its all for not

I have had the best luck giving the female a parvo shot just prior to breeding.
The pups get the immunity from the colostrum in the mothers milk.

Just had a pup come down with it on Friday...........needless to say she is fading fast. Hope the other 2 don't get it, but they probably will.

You can try force feeding gatorade or pedialyte down their throat to keep them hydrated and force a little pepto bis. down their throat to help coat their stomach as the stomach goes thru hell with these puppy diseases......

Good luck.......and beware of the vets they will "rape" you on situations like these.

It may be spendy but it is better than getting "raped" by the Parvo...The ONLY time I have EVER had a pup come out of parvo was when I let the vet do whatever was needed...ended up costing $600+ but in my opinion, was worth it.

I'm not saying don't take them to the vet, just be careful. I recently had a friend with a pup with Parvo (not a hound) and the vet swindled him for $2,200.00..........and the pup still died...........and if you take a look at other posts on here, several people have had the pups die even after taking them to the vet.

Bottom line, the parvo is some nasty stuff..good luck everybody.

I think pups die from secondary infection and dehydration.

If you can get a good injectible antibiotic.
And dosing instructions from the vet.

And ringers lactate.
Inject the ringers under the skin anywhere you can pull up the skin.

Instead of a IV. This is another way to get to the same thing.

And one last thing, Gatorade. In the mouth.
Best things i can think of.

My vet sees lots and lots of parvo and they save a high % of them. The one's that die most often were brought in too far along.

Just thought of two things from a long ago search.

Collodial Silver, Ad claimed it cured parvo. All i know on that one.

Bleach. 30 parts water- 1 part bleach, squirt in mouth.
Saved one using this a good while ago. LAST DITCH EFFORT.

You're braver than me...I wouldn't dare squirt bleach in my dogs mouth. My last ditch effort would be the vet and come what may...if the vet can't save "em I damn sure can't....Parvo is horrible but I think worth trying to save...

Please Don't do the Bleach thing !! Yes it will Kill the Parvo But you will kill everything else the Pup needs to Digest feed. Please Read this Thread I wrote on Parvo and what I used ... It is very effective !! And I have learned alot more on what to do .. Knox Geletin !!! and Antibacterials !! or the Meds I have listed Here http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.ph ... With+Parvo

I had litter of 7 come down with parvo, and saved 5. You need an IV with saline solution, if unavailable you can use distilled water, IV under the skin on the neck every time the bubble goes down and gatorade in the mouth over and over, nonasprin fever reducer and a few days to give them every second of your time. The 2 I lost were in real bad shape because I wasn't home and didn't know until it was too late. A 3rd was on his way to real bad and didn't seem to be getting better. Last effort, the bleach/water mixture. He started getting better within a couple hours. The rest I gave amoxocillin and gatorade because they weren't bad yet, they never got worse. I was probably just persistant and lucky but Hydrate the HECK out of them. Once they start pooping that straight black blood it's near impossible to turn around. Good luck with your dogs.
