I am doing some research for a cat hound. I am still a year out and want to get started. I really like the looks of the old fashion hounds and I am partial to blueticks anyways. How would a large gascon hold up solo on bobbies in the thick coastal range of oregon? It seems that they may be to big for what I need but sure would like one. Thanks for any help. Also any pics of successful cat hunters with these dogs would be nice.

Re: Gascon as bobcat dogs?
My male is just over a year old now and right over 90lbs last week we ran our first cat of the year and his first actual bob tree actually it turned out to be four trees at night but he struck it and I would say that he did about 85 percent of the work getting the cat up once it was up my female who is a two year old bluetick around 70-75lbs put the pressure on the cat she is fast but he was right with her the whole time you coul here him pick up where she woul over run or loose he also excelled right before they had the cat moving you coul here him working hard in his voice kinda a mix between being excited and keeping his mind on the task at hand I like the gascon as cat dogs but I like a bluetick on the speedier side in there too. I hunt in northern new York the terrain varies a little but I hunt in between the seaway valley and the mtns so my dogs hunt everything from big hills to river bottoms to cedar swamps and big stands of pine. I like A combination of cameron and sugar creek crossed or using both types in a pack I think they do really well on cats and I believe even the big gascon type can get it done on cats with out the help of the speedy type hound it just don't happen as fast but I don't believe that a dog is a pack leader because he is the fastest hound when the cat is running a leader to me is the dog that is the dog who typically starts the track can cold trail and is constant thru out the chase and doesn't quit I believe the anchor to be the leader in my book the one I can rely on.
